For A.J. McCarron, confidence isn’t a problem — overconfidence is Be sure to check the comments at the bottom...telling.

I'll say this again: AJ became a problem in the locker room in 2013 because of his attitude. And it started really at the end of the ND beatdown when he shoved his center on national TV.

1st round talent, 7th-round attitude. Which, is why he was drafted in the 5th.

Someone asked what our "problem" was against OU in the '13 Sugar Bowl. A divided locker room and sense of entitlement was a big part of the problem.

That was one of the quotes that got AJ so much heat from fans. It was that quote that added fuel to the "over-confident" characterization.

Interesting that about that year and this one ... it was an eye-opener for this years Heisman winner seeing how much "work" success entailed.

I don't doubt that AJ is a confident/cocky QB and he may have rubbed some on the Bama team wrong his senior year. HOWEVER, the kid won 2 National Championships as our QB and I refuse to bash him.
Here's to Katherine's husband being the first Bama QB to win a game in the NFL in 28 years!!!

Yeah, plus the off the field stuff He did. The guy got a little of a head on him, but hell, that was because of us fans and the pedestal he was put on. Sometimes it can get out of hand, but McCarron is baby shit compared to Famous Jameis and Manziel, plus countless others.

Not trying to start an efight but for anyone who's not from woolly SLO hates AJ. Rumor has it AJ was a dick to him when he was a pizza boy in Tusc. Now he bashes him every chances he gets. Now on the other hand I said AJ would beat out Sims(check), win at least 1 NC(check), win a Heisman(miss), Start in the NFL(half check), and win a SB(pending). Now I love being right and I love rubbing it in people who bash our players faces so RMFT AJ!

All QBs have an ego. Some are better at hiding it than others. AJ may have been a bit hotheaded but he was clutch (2012 LSU and Georgia, for example). He did a lot of great things for the community. He did a lot of great things as a football player. Sure, be had great talent around him but I do believe he was more than just a game manager. He was fun to watch and I loved his fierce competitiveness. The Barrett Jones shove thing actually made me laugh - only a dude as hotheaded and competitive as AJ, and as close to Barrett, and up by 28 points in a championship game, could do it! Very AJ.

To AJ, I say thanks for the memories, enjoy your wife and new baby on the way, and play your heart out for Cincy. Haters gonna hate.

The hilarious thing is that OP is pretending like that article he posted is about AJ being cocky... Its not so I assume you didn't even bother to read. It is talking about him being overconfident in making throws that he should not be attempting. Nice try tho. Some of the fans we have are just ridiculous man.

Yeah, everyone has a tale to tell about when they encountered AJ but I do too. He was at the Galleria when my sister, niece and nephew ran into him. My niece wanted a picture with him and he politely obliged and even struck up a conversation with them. I'll have to find the picture because it was about 4 years ago but I'll post it when I do. AJ is just as perfect as the rest of you. I wish him the best on Sunday!

First round talent?? Not even close. Arm strength & athleticism not in the first round ball park.

And if you're going to call him out for the bad, we need to recognize the good. His "over confidence" led Alabama to a ridiculously successful era.

I hate how AJ was thrown under the bus for the failures of his senior season. Yes I'm sure his leadership could have been better, but there was plenty of blame to go around. The defense and special teams were suspect in big moments that season, particularly the AU game.

I haven't been a big fan of the way AJ has reacted to Bama & Saban related questions since his graduation... I wish he'd just shut it most of the time. However, while he was at Bama, he exceeded expectations in many ways and should be remembered as a true winner. JMO

AJ was the undisputed leader of the 13 team. Being a two-time national champion and dealing with some losses up front made him the go to guy. AJ was great at what he did. He was a student of the game, knew when to check to a screen with Amari, had good accuracy, and was a competitor. I do think maybe some of it went to his head and his attitude changed. He lost it on Henry during the Virginia Tech game for something that was a simple communication error. Then in the OU game, he made some pretty bad throws that he forced. But AJ still played his heart out at Bama and was the best QB we've had under Saban.

I remember you sharing the story and photo. Made me like him even more.

That's a great way to describe him - played his heart out. No question that AJ gave his all every game. Dude was (is!) fierce.

I take it no one read the comments of that article. Folks that didn't even follow Bama know about his bad attitude.

Many draft insiders said the reason he slid so far was because of the cockiness he displayed during interviews with team execs, even so far as to throwing his Bama teammates under the bus for the failures of the 2013 season. The "sense of entitlement" that someone stated ITT, alleging that Saban was agreeing with AJ, is false on that level, and drawn out of context. You don't remember reports from other teammates after AJ's comments where they talked about AJ let the fact that he was "Saban's Boy" go to his head and it caused a rift in the locker room late in the season?

And him shoving his own center in the BCSNCG on TV for all the world to see is him being a fierce competitor? Please. That was a b!tch move. Plain and simple. It was downplayed as "fiery competitiveness" and even joked about by Barrett himself. He stated it was a disagreement about the snap count, and "of course, I was right". You don't pull that kind of sh!t over a snap count. Total diva move.

I'm not discounting what he did as a QB at Bama. He was a good QB. But, there's a reason he didn't win a 3rd championship. Sure, you want your QB to have confidence and swagger. But, you ultimately want your QB to be a leader that the rest of the team wants to follow. And he lost the team in 2013.

There are other articles floating around where he wants to be likened to Tom Brady and Brett Favre. A backup wanting to be compared to HOF top 5 QBs of all time? Those are comments he needs to keep to himself until after he actually wins a starting job, let alone win several playoff games over several seasons. And no, he hasn't WON a starting job. He was thrust into it by injury attrition.

There's no doubt in my mind he's a more talented QB than Andy Dalton. But if the Bengals really thought that AJ had potential as the future of their team, they wouldn't have re-signed Dalton to a big, multi-year deal last year. Why did they do that? It's not because he is more talented than AJ. It's because he's a better LEADER than AJ.

Sorry but I don't agree with you. AJ won most of his games even in High School. He had to earn his way on BAMA's team and he wasn't given any special treatment. Winning championships is not always precise and saying that he lost the team would be hindsite 20/20 that all of us have. No one person can carry a team or lose a team. Teams have to jell and pull everyone together. AJ was the best QB that we have seen, and his mistakes in the pros have nothing to do with BAMA. His mistakes probably have more to do with his assuming he would be selected with his ego. Of course it would be hard not to have a big ego when you get to come home every day to a wife like that.
