🏈 After ankle injury, Jalen returns to see action against The Citadel

My 2 cents says, get healed first. High ankle sprains can cause you lots of future trouble. Winning without Jalen is possible. Winning with both of them hurt is not good, but I don't want to see either of them injured permanently just to win.

Sorry...if you saw Aday...Mac is a player....
Last 3 games...Mac could handle job...

So, Mac had a good game... in a spring scrimmage... against third string players... that's totally the same as starting in the season against SEC defenses...

Actually Mac was with the O 2s....played vs 2s D...
And yes ..that’s probably close to most of the games they have left in regular season Ds...Bamas 2s some of which are 1s now... and .....
Mac looked sharp throwing ball...on time...accurate...
No..obviously...JH and Tua are better....
In a pinch....Mac could get job done...
Hopefully he just does backup duties....but......

Given the way Mac held the ball on snaps... and Mac looked scared.. I say we get Baker kid ready now... get him some reps now. I want Mac/Baker to be ready just in case.
I saw a comment earlier this morning about him having a 'deer in the headlights' look. How one sees that through a facemask is a question for another day.

I'd call him a little confused. It was an odd time of the game with the injury. A long distance down where they'd originally called a pass play. Then, a little more confusion with Tua coming back in, then out, and they went to the option.

I'm more intrigued on what Locks was thinking by the option call than I am worried about how Mac will do.

So true...
....point...if there was no confidence in Mac...put jacobs or other in and run wildcat...
....point....if no confidence in MJ...call TO...and put Tua back in...
....point...wasnt first game MJ has been in...granted backup/ mopup...but he has taken snaps..and thrown TD pass..
....point...option was strange.....
I am lead to believe... they have a level of confidence inMac

....point....if no confidence in MJ...call TO...and put Tua back in...
That's another reason why I said confused. I wondered at the time why UA didn't call a time out and let Tua return. I can only chalk it up to miscommunication; hence, confusion.

Going Wildcat with Josh was one of the better play calls this season by Locks. I don't know of anyone who saw that coming. I knew, and had seen a few mention, he played QB in high school. However, I don't think anyone expected that set.

Yet another thing for defensive coordinators to think about...

Lets just put it this way...Mac did not look comfortable.....if you want to say confused....deer in the headlights...whatever. He did not instill confidence in the team or the coaches...or the fans. If Tua gets hurt against Miss State or Auburn and Jalen isn't healed......We ARE IN TROUBLE. Mac can hand off all day but those Defenses will eat him alive and our run game is great but we wont be able to stand if we cant throw the ball. Our D will only be able to hold up for so long.

That is just speculation, there is no way to know until it happens and we see what he can do. I doubt Saban has been holding Mac back to 3rd string snaps in practice... he knows that Jalen isn't going in the game and has given Mac the 2nd team reps. He's is being prepped. If it happens, I am 100% positive that Saban has a plan... to say we are in trouble is just silly. He's a capable QB... will be be as good as Tua... no, but who is? I don't see where Auburn will score many, if any points on our Defense. MSU could be a little different if their QB gets hot... but still I think Mac would be fine to "manage the game"... maybe fewer down field throws and more RB runs and WR jet action...

Anyway, there is no use worrying about it... it'll be whatever it is.

Mac with that 2 back set we've seen a little of could be very effective. Mac really doesn't worry me. If we're judging him off the holds for the FG kicker the first snap was just godawful and let's be honest, the FG unit has struggled no matter who the holder was. Alabama has who I believe to be the best QB coach and who I know to be the best HC. Give me Mac with all these weapons and this defense for a game or 2 if it comes to that.

I don't think the rules read where you replace an injured player with a timeout. It only states that the player MUST remain out of the game for at least 1 play. It says nothing about being able to use a timeout to regain playing time... FYI. Maybe I've missed that somewhere...

The injury timeout is located in AR-3-3-5 section of the NCAA rule book.

That’s interesting....I believe i have seen it done ....but dont see anything in rules so stating....so maybe not...i shall use one of my... helps....and ask a friend who is an expert on rules

I think I've seen where a team tried to use a TO to get an injured player back in the game and it wasn't allowed... but I just can't recall it in great detail so I don't trust my memory...

thinking about it logically, a traditional TO is a 30 second timeout and an injury timeout really doesn't have a time limit on it... so I could see where a TO wouldn't allow you to reinstate a player.

This is a case of transference if I've ever seen one. You may not have been comfortable and probably weren't considering you were worried about Tua.

There's no way you can know what Mac felt, or the coaching staff felt. You don't have any idea what the team felt either.

What's funny here is people were bragging about Mac over the summer and talking about how he was moving the offense. At the same time people were talking about how Jalen wasn't doing so and repeatedly we saw "you heard what Saban said." But now, the staff doesn't have confidence?

You nailed it. Mac will be fine. Bama will be fine

My "expert" says...... nope cannot use TO to get injured player back in.

I dont know if you know this Terry, but when they give you a shot of the players face, you can actually see their face through the helmet/face mask. I know, it's a very odd concept... ;)

But you gonna tell me when didn't see that "deer in a headlight" look on Blake Barnett look either? Or did he have some special invisible facemask?
