Last year after the first spring practice I mentioned this. And, as the summer and fall went on I mentioned it again and again and again.
That statement?
A friend of mine was observing the practices last year and repeatedly told me "it is the best defense I've ever seen on a college football field. And, it rivals a few I've seen at the next level."
We all know how that turned out.
I haven't had a chance to talk to him, but I did get a text message last night that was very short, and VERY much to the point.
"I've never seen a defensive line, physically, like this one before during my time at Alabama."
Guys, not only was he here in '92, he was on the field in '92.
Did he mean in terms of talent, their capabilities, what? We don't know yet. He was simply talking about the athletes we have on our DL for the 2012 season.
A great secondary can make up for not having a dominant line. And, a dominant line can give a younger secondary time to develop.
From one email: "If I didn't know them, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in our 1's and 2's." :muahaha:
