🏈 Adding to the atmosphere

I was giving thought to how to add to the home filed atmosphere at BDS. I just had a thought that stuck me nicely.

With 4 circular winding walkways leading to the upper deck, one in each corner, it would be cool to place huge spotlights in the center of each projecting a beam of light skyward during night games. Powerful! There is something right and proper about BDS being seen in space...seeing how its the center of the universe and all.

Thoughts?

(Yes, this is what February looks like for a Bama football fan.)

But first I'd settle for fans who don't sit on the hands the whole game!

AGREED Bama Jamma! Glad to see that I am not the only one fed up with that. There is no excuse for everyone not to be up on their feet and screaming to the top of their lungs....this is Alabama football, what else matters. Who cares that I see it through crimson colored glasses.

You as so right. The only benefit that can be brought by those attending is to be standing and loud. That it. Nothing else.

First of all, who lost their freakin' mind an let the wheel chair-bound fans in? The nerve. Then there are those old farts, you know the ones that were buying tickets to every game back in the 50s when you and I weren't born yet. Yea, they donate millions, but get a clue...donations are made down the street Monday-Friday so you don't suck up those parking spaces. Then there are the ones that go to the rest rooms. Idiots! Like Bama needs your help at the Urinals. Then there are those the stop yelling to converse with the ones that they are attending with. This is a football game Chatty-Cathy, not a tea party. Oh and another thing - I'm, proud of this idea by the way - what Jack Hole spent millions $$ on buying seats? Not only is it a waste of money, but think of how many more thousands could be squeezed in.

To me one should be booted upon graduation. Lets face it, the peak of Bama fever is when you are a student, so Alumni should just move on and not taint the purity. As for those that never attended the UA, well they can stay in their cage and move their wanna-be" Bama-posin' stank back to Mayberry High for Friday nights. This is the Alabama Family and we don't need Ma and Pa Kettle, or yo Momma,or yo Daddy, nor your one rich Cousin (twice removed) in the way. That is what T.V. is for.

What we need is to increase those standing who yell during the more irrelevant moments of the game. No stadium is needed in fact. The game can be played in a pasture out in Fosters (which is a good thing because we just lost so many of the Sugar Daddies that pay the mortgage.)

There is something to be said about a women in her Sixies that returns home after a game and is physically spent from offering HER level of support. Her's was not as much as mine, but she layed what she had out there. (My Mom after homecoming last season.) Contrast that to the half empty student section that she stared at all game, where the most capable cheerers among us stand and cheer. Then after the game, because they didn't "leave it all out on the field" for the team, they follow the game by pulling off an all-nighter drinking and dancing.

Consider this: EQUAL SACRIFICE DOES NOT ALWAYS LOOK THE EQUAL.

"Alabama Football" has never been all standing, all-screaming. But what it has been is special, and special for decades. If we can't win with the support that we have, then we have no hope or right to expect us to be competitive on the road. Ma and Pa Kettle will never be loud, nor standers. But, they will be contributors, and that is their roll in supporting the team. If we need standing, with will not nor should not fall on my Mom's artificial knee. Besides, if a player can tell if cousin Bubba in the upper deck is standing or sitting, the player is not focused on his job. People stand for themselves, so THEY can see, not be seen.

I know they leave the lights on a bunch of nights throughout the weeks of the offseason. Nothing like seeing the lights of the Mecca of Football all over Tuscaloosa.

I bet one could see the lights of Mecca from Lee County :D

Seriously, these lights would have that kind of effect, and you might actually be able to see it the next county over. There is something so-right about that. The lights could be used at other events as well, like when we host Softball/Baseball tournaments, Gymnastic's "Breast Cancer Awareness" meet, the arrival of 5* recruits for recruiting visits :D , outside certain academic building to help a player find class when he fails to attend .... CNS looks for every edge he can get. This is one that no one in the country has tapped into.

LBS, I understand there are some circumstances where its fine for people to sit. I wasn't going to go into all the if's, but's, and exceptions....

My main problem is the people who tell me or my family, friends, whoever to sit down during a game and often get rude about it. It's not that we are standing up the entire game or yelling during offense or when nothing is going on. It's that we cheer and stand up and applaud the team, plays, etc and forwhatever reason, that pisses some people off. I've seen it year after year.

I had a long-winder reply made but canned it to keep it short. I think this gets discussed mnay times every year and is just beating a dead horse.

FWIW I like the lights idea.

Jamma,
Dead horse indeed my friend, which is why have addressed other areas. Other than the few referenced legitimate cases (i.e. wheel-chair bound, or Alumni from the Class of '47) Mr. Grumpy Fan will be left toGet Over It with respects to the typical/customary/expected standing. An usher will not remove you for standing, unless you are a walking advertisement for Southern Comfort. Standers and sitters are both part of Alabama football.

So, those grumpy fans ignored, how do we improve the atmosphere? Lights and __________. What do you suggest?

it's just a game.

I really enjoy Alabama football, but my weekend isn't ruined if they lose.

Pile on if you feel the need, but that's the truth.

I don't see how the converation about atmosphere, and people sitting or standing has anything to do with "ruining someone's weekend".

I stand up and cheer at the games, but if we lose it doesn't ruin my weekend. I just don't see the connection of this thread with your post, or was this just random thoughts by Johnnynolan?

Ok I will pile. Cause it does ruin my weekend, my week, my month, and depending on who we play, my year.

As I've said before (and yes, I am in the over 60 set) if you paid your money for your ticket and want to sit there on your hands and barely move during the game, that is your right. Just don't fuss at me when I'm jumping up and down, screeming, high fiving those around me. Heck, I can't even sit quietly for Bama football in my den. If you want everyone to sit quietly in their seats try opera, not Bama football.

My pleasure CarTag.
You see, at 40 my body is "starting to talk to me", and I can see far enough now to know that I will be there myself some day. I also plan on being there at Bryant-Denny too, when that day comes. So I want to welcomed when its my turn. Granted, I may have to look at the back of some youngin' sitting in front of me as he cheers with all he's got. But I will try to be understanding then too, because that was me then/now.

This one of the reasons I like being a Tide fan. Whereas others want to claim that they are the ______ Nation, I prefer being called the Alabama FAMILY.

Yeah I have no issues at all with folks who can sit and be content with that. And I can relate to the age thing, though I'm not at the hill yet. Heck my bones hurt a ton from years of dirt bike wrecks growing up. So I fuilly understand as my body feels far more aged than my heart does.

It's just those others who sit, sulk, complain about something they know nothing about on a play, etc yet feel they own more "real estate" than their ticket got them and feel they need to make a scene if people get overly excited at games.

But anyways I should of known better than bring up this constant merry-go-round topic on here. Always ends up the same everytime  . My fault and sorry for it getting your thread off topic.

---------------------

But to your question and back on topic, I guess I'd like to see is them either ditch the horrible elephant sound effect or at least improve it next season. That thing sounds so horrible and opposing team fans always seem to comment on it around my area. I feel embarrassed every time that dang thing plays. And heaven forbid you are even in the chairback upperdeck sections by one of the PA speakers when it goes off. I know its not much or anything as your idea sounds pretty nice but I think this elephant voice over is one of those things that people gawk at, or at least the fans around me seem to hate it. I know we can't be alone! Aside from some sprucing up around the field endzone and corners (paint), I can't think of much else. I love BDS as it is, aside from the elephant voice! :D
