For years I've been of the opinion that the Foy-OKD trophy and the "ceremony" held when it's awarded has past its time. If for no other reasons it's the shenanigans by the SGA's presidents (of both schools) that's happened over the last decade. The only saving grace, if you will, is that the trophy has been awarded for almost a century. Now, if you consider it's called the "Sportsmanship" trophy...OK, we'll call that another strike against the presentation.
That said, I laughed several years ago when LSU and Arkansas came up with the idea they'd make a rivalry and award a trophy to the winner with their Golden Boot. The rivalry was contrived. The boot/trophy? Gaudy, at best.
Carolina and Clemson have their trophy though a fan couldn't be happy it's been pimped out and is now called the Hardee's trophy. There are some great rivalries out there and those game carry their own trophies: The Bucket of Nails, The Golden Egg, and the Little Brown Jug are a few that come to mind. These carry something with themādecades of traditions.
Now, it's high time to stop this madness.
It's been announced that South Carolina and Texas A&M are going to add a trophy to their game. Let's weigh the tradition found in this game.
In the last 100 they've played...NEVER.
Maryland joins the B1G officially today and is already talking about trophies for their games against Penn State and Rutgers.
Manufacturing tradition. Geez.
