šŸ“” AD at USC: "I am pleased to let you know Coach Helton will continue to be our head coach. "

Nick is going to hire Dan Quinn as our DC once Dan is given his pink slip from Arthur...…….

We're putting the band back together

Ya know, he's got experience with the 3-4 base.

That said, I've been thinking about that as a base defense for the last two years and am beginning to wonder if it's time for a different approach. But, that's a thread in and of itself...maybe later on this week.

It's not the arrow ...it's the Indian
If that's truly the case, why did we see a change in the offensive approach? Because sometimes it is the arrow. Like I said...a thread in and of itself.

I'd do it now but working on some CSS and FA additions to the site...give me a bit and I'll share my thoughts. I keep getting these alerts and it's pulling me away thinking it means something else. 😱

Sometimes you adjust your weapons because of the Indians you have. A passing offense with Derrick Henry wouldn't have been the best allocation of resources.

Question: "The reporting we're seeing on the USC job is ___?" How would you describe what we've seen? Confusing? About what we all should expect?

Here's how crazy this has been to date. To date because it wouldn't surprise me if it took a turn for the worse even before the sun comes up this morning.

Consider...

In the original post in this thread we have a Tweet from a SI writer stating Helton has been fired with a link to his write-up.

Clay Helton has coached his last game for the Trojans. USC is dismissing the embattled fourth-year head coach and could officially announce the move by Monday, multiple sources told SI. A school spokesman said on Sunday afternoon that a decision on Helton has not been made; Messages for Helton were not returned.
The story gets interesting when we fast forward a bit. That SI story is followed up by another SI story from Pat Forde, another SI writer when he reports that the original article isn't correct, an article from SI.

Multiple sources are disputing the report that Clay Helton is being fired as head coach at USC, according to Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde
.
(Notice a trend there?)
I thought Sean Keeley summed it up nicely in his piece: "Perhaps Sports Illustrated will shed some light on Sports Illustrated’s report on Sports Illustrated’s dispute of Sports Illustrated’s initial report and eventually clear it all up."

Today doesn't offer much clarity in this whole sordid mess. It's just as accurate depending on which side you choose to believe. Or, which reporter you choose to believe.

Scott Wolf, an AP voter who has been the beat writer for USC for years while writing for the Los Angeles Daily News, reports Helton has been told he's on his last leg and only has a few days left on the job.
My job is to tell you everything I hear. This came from a high-ranking administation source. USC has supposedly given Clay Helton until Thursday to find another job, such as at UNLV.
OH! But wait!!! That's been published in the last two hours, right? He's out ... BUT! Also within the last two hours ...

Sports media (SI) has fired and rehired this guy about 4 times now in total

If I am Helton I send my big dumb BIL's cousin to whoop somebody's ass at SI

And going forward if I am him I completely ignore anyone with ties to SI during PCs etc

Good coach, bad coach it doesn't matter, this shit is ridiculous

USC and USCjr in lockstep on this one. Both coaches looked like they were history. Conflicting reports came out about their dismissals. Now both have been given the kiss of death...I mean...vote of confidence, yes, vote of confidence, that's what I meant ;)

Based on what I've learned over the last few days we're seeing one of those situations play out that we've often spoke of; a school thinking about a change and then after looking around they realize "is there a better option available right now?" In USC's case they decided there isn't and that led Bohn to finally make the decision to retain Helton.

I'm coming away from this with the opinion Bohn deserves a hat tip...if for anything, his patience with this. It's interesting to me watching their fan base become vocal about Helton but fail to show up for games on Saturday's; at least not consistently.

I am coming to this conclusion also.....
He is is gone...Meyer is coming...ooops Cowboys decide they want Meyer....
And Meyer is whooping it up ....and now the USCw see no better options....
Maybe next year Trojans...

Urban Meyer and Jerry Jones. Nope. I don't see that happening. Never say never in this world but does anyone believe Meyer would be a "yes man" to Jones like Switzer and others have managed to become?

From what I understand, and I do believe it to be true, the Meyer and USC stories were media contrived storylines. Meyer, as he's known to be, wouldn't shy away from his name being in the spotlight just like Gruden never did when he was in the booth.
