🏈 A Thought on Television Programming

On Saturday morning with the push of a button on my remote I looked through the television schedule and could not find the game listed. I did find it on PPV for $141. I called a buddy of mine, jumped in the car, and we raced to Tuscaloosa with the hopes of finding tickets. We did and went to the game. Great.Even made it on time.

I realized later the game DID play in Tennessee (where I live, I know, sorry, I don't like it much either). At any rate, I had a thought at the game while sitting in my seat, bought and paid for, during a television commercial. You know how it is, the game is rocking on and next thing you know the guy with that cord is standing around the twenty yard line and the players and officials and fans sit waiting for him to tell everyone when our adoring television audience is back after being inundated by beer commercials.

Here's the thing. After the first series of downs, or whenever they go to commercial, why not let television tape the rest and delay their broadcast to make room for commercials. Television would be happy, nothing would change but technically the broadcast would not be "live". The fans, who have paid good money to attend the game, would be happy and wouldn't have to sit doing nothing. The teams could maintain the flow of the game. The guy standing on the field wouldn't be needed anymore. The technology is available, obviously.

So, why not do this thing?

I don't know why other than to keep it live. All I do know is that many a game I have stared at that man with the red hat with vitriol hatred spewing out of every fiber of my being for slowing down the momentum. My mind starts to ponder that if I could just jump the barricade and ran across and tackled him cleanly with a bone jarring spear, the entire stadium would erupt with cheers and accolades.

They'd probably take up a collection for your bail.
