🏈 A thought on basketball mixed in with a football premise...

I'll admit, my first thought after the games were played yesterday was along the lines of "...and people said two SEC teams wouldn't make a four team playoff."

Normally, you wouldn't find me rooting for a team just because they are from the SEC. For the next few days that's going to change a bit. Here's why...

As a member of the SEC conference, Bama fans should enjoy having the last laugh if we end up seeing an All-SEC final in basketball.

With so many rejoicing in the SEC's BCSNC run broken by FSU...seems quite fitting, doesn't it?

FWIW, Vegas has both SEC teams favored: Florida by 5½ and UK by 2½.

UK basketball is similar to Alabama football. Remember hearing a lot people last year from the state of Kentucky say that this is going to be like the run Alabama and the barn had in football. Sort of logical when you think of it. Kentucky wins a title, then their arch rival follows them in the following season with a title.

So I'm guessing if we follow by this thing, UK will go on to win the title in a rematch against UF. :cartman:

It will be hard for UF to beat UK four times in one season. The twins have emerged for Kentucky. Guard play was their main flaw earlier in their years, but it ha become an asset. It is tough to keep those big guards from getting into the lane. Wisconsin presents a problem to Kentucky in that their seven footer can score from the three point line, as well as in close. I am on the record as considering Bo Ryan as one of the best coaches in the game. It will be interesting to see how he combats Kentucky's size and physicality.

UConn thinks that they are once more destiny's team. They also are playing their best ball of the year now. Florida's guards defend so well that they should win, maybe comfortably.

UK-UW is going to be fun to watch inside, especially with Julius Randle going up against one of the tournaments best, Kaminsky. Both teams like to bang down low, hit inside. I think Wisconsin has better shooting around the perimeter and is better on shot selections; however, UK does have more athleticism and is killing it off the backboards.

I think UK will win.

Like <!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: dbtech_usertag_mention --> @bamaraider <!-- END TEMPLATE: dbtech_usertag_mention -->, I have a great amount of respect for Kentucky basketball. They stand tall in tradition only matched by a very few. When you beat UK in basketball, it always carries a little extra meaning. I will always pull for them in the NCAA as long it's not BAMA they are playing.

As far as Florida is concerned, like their football program, they are the Johnny-come-lately's of the SEC. Not trying to undermine what Donovan has done down there because it's remarkable but UK is SEC basketball. I would look forward to an all-SEC final with the Wildcats hopefully prevailing.

I know it's not popular but I always pull for the SEC teams at bowl time or in the NCAA tournament. Rupp Arena is a fantastic basketball atmosphere and Florida has proven in recent years that they are a serious basketball program. Wishing the two teams well on Saturday.

I'm completely opposite. I'm not a big fan of Calipari, though I respect what he has done. Donovan is a great coach also, but I hate Florida. Pulling for Wisconsin because I'd love to see Bo Ryan cut down the nets. Not a guy for SEC Pride so I rarely pull for SEC teams. Usually just throw that out that window and root for teams I like more or hate less.
