Hey Auburn,
You have had back-to-back double-digit winning seasons only once in your "distinguished" history. You accomplished that in 1988 and 1989 or roughly over a quarter of a century ago. You've been playing football for over 120 years and you've done that only once.
Alabama did it first time after the 1962 season. We then did it again in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. We did it again in 1978, 1979 and 1980. If we had won ten in 1976 we would have done it ten years consecutively. Oh yeah, we won "only" nine that year. We did it again after the 1992 campaign. And now we are on another run. It started in 2009 and continued in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015. We have had only one coach in our history who has had the opportunity to win ten but couldn't.
In 1920 ten-game seasons became the norm. We won ten games that year. Since that time we have never gone more than ten years without a double digit-win season. Since 1945 we have never gone more that eight years without winning at least ten. Since 1920 (95 seasons) we have won at least ten games an astonishingly 36 times or a success rate of almost 39%. This has been accomplished in a very competitive football environment. Not in the Mountain West nor the ACC but in big-boy football land.
But that's not all. We've won 11 or more games in back-to-back seasons ten times and have won 12 or more games back-to-back five times. In the last nine years we have averaged 12.5 wins a year. We just finished a four year stretch where we won 52 games which is the highest total for that time frame ever.
We are the only school that has a winning record against every past and present SEC member. We are also the only SEC program that has won at least one conference title in every decade since the league was established in 1933. We are also the school that's captured the first SEC football title, and are also the first team to win a title by winning the SEC Championship game... and we are also the team that won the last SEC football title, and the last team to win it three times in a row. We are the first team to win five consecutive SECCGs and are tied for the most SECCG wins. Hell, we've won four out of the last five. Counting 2016, we have 26 SEC championships and twice as many as the next school which has 13. That next school isn't Auburn since you're tied for fifth with eight and only three ahead of Georgia Tech who has not competed in the SEC for over 50 years.
We've also won more National Championships since the start of the poll era in 1936. Since 1961, Alabama has won 11 of them for an average of one about every five years. We've also won four out of the last eight which is unprecedented since the start of the modern era. You've won two and by today's standards, one of those would never have happened. The other was won with a rented QB who should have been ineligible to play based on the fact that his father was offering his services for cold cash which, up to that point,aa was a clear NCAA violation.
That is winning tradition, consistent winning tradition and is what separates Alabama from Auburn. You have had miracles and more than your share of breaks and good bounces, but you are light years away from Alabama's tradition.
Here's another interesting fact comparison. You've been playing college football around 125 years. In that span you've been ranked number one nine times in the weekly poll. We've been ranked number one fourteen straight weeks this year alone. Do you see where this is going?
