🏈 A real genius here.

Dude... lol They are "set" at QB because they have a supposed franchise QB as the starter. They clearly wanted a solid No. 2 behind him. Something unfortunately Atlanta has not been concerned with doing.
I buy that....but the 2 they have are solid "reserves ".....
and a franchise QB as a starter.....
you cant have ( well, i quess u can) 2 franchise QBs on payroll.... if you stay in league many years.....u are pretty dang good....may just move family around a lot...
....best jobs in nfl are reserve QBs....no headache on Monday morning...
And kicker....no headache anytime

Very few second round QBs are "franchise QBs" and none of them get franchise QB contracts. Hurts was such a great prospect partly because he can be a "weapon" and not just a QB. If you have a guy on your roster than can come in and play receiver, running back, etc. with gadget plays and the like but also be a backup QB it gives you the opportunity to save a roster spot and carry three QBs on the roster.

100% agree....with the flexibility a player like JH can give you....but if he is #1 backup.....they generally dont want him out there taking shots...
But....just a couple non-first rounders....tom Brady...6th....joe montana 3rd...
Drew brees. 2nd....so you dont have to be a first rounder to be a franchise QB...
Lot of first rounders was out also

Jalen doesn't have to be the No. 2 right away. That's what makes him so attractive as a backup, especially if they like either of the other two on the roster right now.

That's why I said "very few" and not "none." You named three guys in like a 40 year span lol The fact is most "franchise QBs" are first round picks because they were also stars in college. Definitely some exceptions but few and far between. I mean just look at the starting QBs in the NFL right now.

Arizona Cardinals - Kyler Murray (first round)
Buffalo Bills - Josh Allen (first round)
Miami Dolphins - Either Ryan Fitzpatrick (SEVENTH ROUND), Josh Rosen (first round) or Tua (first round)
New England Patriots - Jarrett Stidham (fourth round) or Brian Hoyer (undrafted) but honestly I expect them to sign Andy Dalton (first round)
New York Jets - Sam Darnold (first round)
Baltimore Ravens - Lamar Jackson (first round)
Cincinnati Bengals - Joe Burrow (first round)
Cleveland Browns - Baker Mayfifeld (first round)
Pittsburgh Steelers - Ben Rapelisberger (first round) - also have Paxton Lynch (first round) on the roster
Houston Texans - Deshaun Watson (first round)
Indianapolis Colts - Phillip Rivers (first round)
Jacksonville Jaguars - Gardner Minshew (sixth round)
Tennessee Titans - Ryan Tannehill (first round)
Denver Broncos - Drew Lock (second round)
Las Vegas Raiders - Derek Carr (first round) - also have Marcus Mariotta (first round) on the roster
LA Chargers - Justin Herbert (first round)
Dallas Cowboys - Dak Prescott (fourth round)
New York Giants - Daniel Jones (first round)
Philadelphia Eagles - Carson Wentz (first round)
Washington Redskins - Dwane Haskins (first round) - also have Alex Smith (first round) on the roster
Chicago Bears - Mitch Trubisky (first round)
Detroit Lions - Matt Stafford (first round)
Green Bay Packers - Aaron Rodgers (first round) - also have Jordan Love (first round) on the roster
Minnesota Vikings - Kirk Cousins (fourth round)
Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan (first round)
Carolina Panthers - Teddy Bridgewater (first round)
New Orleans Saints - Drew Brees (second round) - also have Jameis Winston (first round) on the roster
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Tom Brady (seventh round) - also have Blaine Gabbert (first round) on the roster
LA Rams - Jared Goff (first round)
Seattle Seahawks - Russell Wilson Jr. III (third round)
San Francisco 49ers - Jimmy Garoppolo (second round)

Dang....thats some list.... i just had the Ms50+ list and was a little shorter on time!
I guess when you put "NONE get franchise contracts" you meant immediately from draft.... li was thinking you meant ever....
that’s really interesting list...

Hurts was a fantastic young man, but you could see during games that he processed data slower and reverted to instinct quickly. He will do well in the league.

I didn't say none, I said "very few" and I meant very few QBs that aren't first round picks end up being franchise type QBs. QB seems to be a position that scouts have hit on - in terms of first rounders working out - more than just about any other position, likely because they have to because of how much money they spend on them.

Not nine from my list unless you consider Gardner Minshew a franchise QB lmao Brees, Brady and Wilson are the only franchise QBs on that list of non-first rounders. A franchise QB is a guy that a team builds their franchise around, the face of the franchise.

Well they did get rid of Foles to go with Minshew, so they want to build around him it would seem. On top of it, he's in his second year, so kind of hard to exclude him from franchise quarterback potential because no one knows after one year.

They were literally just contemplating taking a guy in the first round this year... supposedly they are giving him another year to see if he can do it. He wont and they will draft someone else. That's my opinion but I would hardly call a guy that has less than one season starting under his belt for a team that thought about taking a guy in the first round last week as a franchise QB.

But they didn't take a guy in the first round...

I'm not saying he's a franchise guy, simply saying they kept him over a proven guy in Foles, so he has the opportunity considering they haven't brought in another guy.

I was never sold on Bortles at all, but Minshew has already shown more than Bortles and they kept him for like five years it seemed.

Also, the Falcons spoke about taking a defensive end for months and months, and then take a cornerback. Point of that story is that just because they talk about it doesn't mean that's their plan

The only thing Foles proved was that he is far from the franchise QB they hoped he would be and not worth a 10th of his contract. They signed him to $100 million contract, which is why he was dumped in favor an average rookie making less than a million a season.

I dont think anyone was sold on Bortles lol And I'm not talking about what the Jags have been saying publicly. The word about them contemplating a QB was stuff that insiders were getting after the fact. I believe one of them talking about the Jags looking to give Minshew another year was Schefter.
