🏈 A quote from Javy...

I'm guessing I fall into the "football fans" category.

It's like I said in another thread BC, you never know who is on the other end of a keyboard.

It reminds me of one of GWB's cabinet members who was a A&M fan and posted on TexAggies.com or something like that. In this case, here's a fan of Auburn that happens to be a fan of football...and, can (and has) added a lot to content here over the last few years.

I might not care for North Carolina basketball, but I sure as hell wouldn't stop and listen to what Stuart Scott had to say on the game itself.

Well if you say so. I have no problem with Auburn fans in general. I have more than once given my gratitude to Duder for his great insight. The majority of my close friends themselves are Auburn fans. If foshman knows what he's talking about and I'm misinformed then I'll concede. It's just something you hear over and over again about how intense, complicated, and how high a learning curve Saban's defense has. I've heard it more than once from more than one person. If that's not the case...then I apologize. I don't seem to catch foshman on here very much, so I thought it was just another one of THOSE rival fans...so you can at lease see where I was coming from.

That and at the time I was in a cranky mood.

I am not entirely sure that you have stated that Nick Saban is a defensive mastermind.

.

Then you should go back and reread my first two posts in this thread where I explicitly state that Saban's defense appears to be very similar to what he ran at Miami.

This was never about discrediting Saban, that's a knee jerk reaction/invention by some of you because I expressed an opinion and am not an Alabama fan. My point was that Javy Arenas does not know more about defense than professional football coaches, that even if there are similarities in terminology an NFL defense will always be required to do more because the NFL offenses they play also do more.

I do wonder what you guys would have done had you played Stanford, whose offense is very similar to some low end NFL west coast offenses. It would have been interesting to see if Saban chose pressure at the risk of big plays, or coverage at the risk of long sustained drives.

A quick addition: (this is an edit)

I don't think Nick Saban is a defensive "mastermind" in the way Gary Patterson is. I think he's a much better coach overall and a very good to great defensive coach, but I don't think him a mastermind defensively.

I do think he is a "mastermind" at recruiting, and I think he is probably the best program builder in recent college football. In my eyes those are the strengths that set him apart.

I love the new avatar. Go Jags!

Not gonna lie foshman, I did have a knee jerk reaction. I apologize.

By the way, the new avatar looks MUCH better. My fiance is actually attending South Alabama now.

No worries at all. Most of you don't know me yet....if you did you'd all hate me.

South's a good school. Much different then when I was there. My guess is in 15 years it rivals Auburn and Alabama in terms of size.

If you run a quick search you'll find a thread where joe (howard) and I were having a conversation about USA football just a few weeks ago.'

I"m a HUGE Joey Jones fan.

Had some good friends go to USA to play baseball after the onion....was in the early 90's I graduated in 91 myself and played at Southern Onion...I had to quit because of a bad wheel. Big fan of USA.
