With all this awesome success we have had since 2008 , It scares me to think of the tumble we will take after coach Saban retires .
Don't look down because there is a long long way to the bottom...........Saddle up Sport and enjoy the ride....they all end at some point

seems like only yesterday

Mike Clapper Dubose (who cut that guys hair?)
Mike It's rolling baby Price (10 million for a piece of P,,,,Pizza)
Mike We're close Shula (good guy that let folks talk him into a bad situation)
Dennis you hold the rope Franccione.....LOL at you A&M
Bill where is my sunglasses Curry.....the BOT's hired a sales manager instead of a football

Doesnt have to be a major tumble.... but as @JoseyWalesTheOutlaw pointed out...
We can have the stupidest BOT on the planet...but in the time it comes.... could have the a great hire following nick....
and Perkins would have been great if he would have not bailed on Bama
..great recruiting.....great D minded.... so called "offensive genius"...asshole but tough..but when he bailed...it started the landslide......

Thinking back on this topic a couple of moves could have kept the Alabama dynasty moving along. Keeping Pat Dye in Tuscaloosa would have been a big step in the same direction. We would continue the wishbone tradition and a great defense. We could have grabbed Bobby Bowden after Perkins and even though fundamentally it would have been a different game, we would have destroyed folks on the scoreboard. Really, the only thing that went right for us after coach Bryant and to coach Saban was the short tenure of Gene Stallings. But ending that with probation and sanctions put a damper even on his 7 years. I would say that enduring the ups and downs from 1982 to 2007, we were due some sustained success. Frankly, who knew it was going to be this sustainable?

The hire of Bill Curry (good man no doubt) over Coach Bowden will go down at the most ignorant move by the BOT at ANY SCHOOL.

Yo Joab......if you're reading these post this Wonderful Easter Morning then I hope you don't find all the eggs

Bill Curry......................"you can't be serious"..................John McEnroe

It was as stupid if not more stupid...then Tennessee hiring Derek Dooley....
Bama recovered...took Stallings to do it...( then stupid arrived again)....
Tennessee has not....

FWIW, I hated Perkins. It did not help that I was an impressionable lad at the time. Bryant had been very gracious to me both times I met him. Perkins was an asshole to a 12 year old me.
It's a little late but if there is ANYBODY in Alabama that Ray Perkins didn't pizz off then please Honk your Horn...

I do believe Ray Perkins wakes up everyday as an azzhole and like my wife (2nd) said about me..."you don't even have to work on it for it comes natural"...

And you think Curry was a "good guy?" He's Bama's Richt--sanctimonious, with no doubt.
Not sure you know who the Hoot Al but Jack is from my hometown. I was sitting beside Charlie Pell and his wife at the Bama vs Kentucky game in 89. Charlie and I both headed to the concession stand near half and Hoot Al was standing at the end of line. He told us then Curry was done at the end of the season. His story was Bill had pizzed everybody in the A-Club not named Galen McCullough.

RIP Hoot Al.............Jack was the the other guy arrrested with Joe Willie in 63. In Joe's book I can't wait until tomorrow because I get better looking everyday his account.......

" I told Hoot Al not to worry because Coach Bryant would come down and get them out of jail but Hoot Al said Coach will get you out but he will leave me in here".

Hoot Owl Hicks.

The last time I thought about him was in '09. He was able to see Bama get some "revenge" against the Longhorns before he passed a few weeks after the BCSNC.

I will say this about him, my dad was helping our 11-12 year old all star team when we were in Northport for state. We toured Coleman and saw Coach Perkins coming out the door. My dad went up to him and asked him if he had time to meet some kids. He actually took 5 minutes to shake each of our hands and wished us good luck in the tournament.
Still thought it was a Dick move to bail on his alma mater!!!

I am not sure we ever got the real story on Ray leaving. Some say he had gotten himself in trouble with night putting on a closed course. The owner of a NFL (a Bama guy) hires away the HC of their school was a bit odd as well.

JMO but Bama would have been so much better had they hired Coach Stallings instead of Ray.

I remember Perkins came out of the gate pretty strong in 1983. After smoking the first 4 teams on the schedule, he was saying that college football was a lot easier than he imagined. Then came Penn State at Happy Valley and the ridiculous call in the end zone. He finished 8-4 and the next season it got worse at 5-6. He rallied to 9-2-1 and 10-3. I think after 4 seasons Perkins knew he wasn't coach Bryant and to stand in that shadow was getting kinda cold. When Tampa came a calling I think he was happy to go.

Like they say, "No one wants to be the man that replaces THA MAN!!" Whomever gets that task following Coach Saban, likely won't last longer either!!!
