šŸˆ A look at the stats and injury reports from Alabama's first scrimmage of preseason camp

The first Alabama football scrimmage of the preseason didn't go off without a hitch. Rain and lightning rolled through in the middle of the action as the Tide worked in an empty Bryant-Denny Stadium.

UA media relations provided a few stats from the soggy affair. Nick Saban said it would be "unfair" to give the passing numbers given the conditions.

"First of all, you almost have to include the drops because there were a few drops because there were a few drops because of the conditions," Saban said. "And I just don't think it would be fair based on those conditions to make some kind of statistical assessment so that's not the most important thing to us."

  • Dominick Jackson- ankle sprain, out of practice for a couple of weeks.
  • Geno Smith- knee sprain, out of practice for a day or two.
  • Kurt Freitag- turf toe. Will be evaluated further.
  • Dalvin Tomlinson- limited participation, foot injury from earlier in the week.
  • Eddie Jackson- didn't scrimmage, not up to full speed.
  • A'Shawn Robinson- didn't scrimmage, knee injury (sprain) earlier in the week. Out for a week or so.
(I think I'm forgetting someone.)

A note or two:

Drake's numbers are boosted from longer runs.
Griffith miss was a 50+ yarder.
Sims and Coker had some good series. Morris, Bateman, and Cornwell took series as well—not as well.
Play makers making receptions in space and then it's one on one type of action.

Tidesports info: (almost the same as above.)
-- Thought it was important to get guys used to the stadium, had about a 40-minute break.
-- Saban on QB's: "I think it would be unfair to either player to evaluate on passing statistics based on today."
-- "Defensively we have a long way to go, we missed a lot of tackles." Mentioned a lot of defensive players Bama had out.
--Really pleased with kicking game. Scott punted well. Griffith was 4-of-5 on field goals and his miss was with the No. 2's and without his normal holder.
-- We practice 1v1's against HUNH every day in practice and simulated it with about 8-10 plays in the scrimmage today.
-- Saban says media making too much of stopping the HUNH. Cited examples against Oklahoma, Auburn, TAMU.
-- How did D-line do without A'Shawn? Mentioned J. Allen, Pettway, Dalvin Tomlinson got stepped on at practice and is day-to-day.
-- Both did a lot of good things. Tough day to operate out there, thought both guys handled it well.
- Any other health concerns out of scrimmage? Biggest concern would be Frietag suffered turf toe. Geno Smith sprained knee and is day-to-day. A couple ankle sprains... Dominick Jackson has one that might keep him out a couple weeks.
- Eddie Jackson did not participate but probably could if he wanted. Coaches made decision to not.
- Been encouraged on the offensive line and Cam Robinson today and all camp. Shep doing well, Ryan Kelly has been playing really well, Arie is consistent, A. Taylor consistent too. "We've been physical up front." "I've been kind of pleased with the way that's come along."
-- Says freshman Ross Pierschbacher is making a run at being on the two-deep.
-- Saban said he'll watch film at home tonight, it will be ready for him. He'll grade offense and defense and be ready to meet with coaches tomorrow.

Johnathon Allen looked great at A-Day, so exciting to see his name again at the top of the defensive stat sheet. Pretty pumped to see what he'll offer this season, yet another Top 5 recruit.

Drake continuing to show his ability, even though just a scrimmage, still great to know our thoughts on him are a reality.

Damn we're gonna be good. We have so much talent, ability, and weapons that I think we're gonna have a special year. I'm gonna love it even more when we do all of this "with so many questions at quarterback and kicker". These next couple of weeks can't get here fast enough. Let me know if any of y'all boys will be in Atlanta.
