My wife is the PTA president, where our kids go to school. They are having a themed basket auction in Oct. to help raise money for the PTA so they can purches different items for the school during the year. One of the teams will be an Alabama basket, and of course Auburn. Well they are suppose to get Cheesenip to autograph a football and put in one, someone knows the statetrooper that escorts him and are going to get him to sign a ball. My question is how do I get an autographed football from Coach Saban? Do I need to send a ball to the athletic dept or SI dept with a letter telling what is is for and pay for postage to send it back? And would Coach Saban and the University do this for the school?

Coach signed a football that was sold at a silent auction to raise funds for our elementary school, as did Mark Ritch, Bobby Johnson and Tubberville last year. I am not 100% sure how the school went about getting the signed footballs but pretty sure it was in a letter to the athletic departments of the universities mentioned. Don't think any prepaid postage was involved. I'll inquire more tomorrow about the particulars.

edit - Inquired tonight with my wife who is a teacher at this elementary school and she said one of our PTO parents called the athletic departments of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Georgia Tech and did not stop until she spoke to the right person. All four schools responded with either an autograph football (UA, GT, UGA) and/or autographed hat (UA, AU, UGA). I got the hat btw and was in a bidding war with my daughters teacher for the football. She is very cute, so I caved in.

elbatide, thanks if you find out let me know. I'm gonna see if I can get the athletic dept's phone number and see what I can find out.

Are you from Elba,AL? I'm grew up in Slocomb area, I remember us playing ya'll in football and basketball when I was in high school.

I'll ask my wife to call this PTO person tomorrow and see if she has any names that may save you some time.

Yes, I am from Elba. Graduated in 1985 long before Dorsey Trailers closed down. Back then we were a 4A school in the 6A classification and our rivals were Opp, Andalusia, Charles Henderson and Pike County. Things have changed alot and football has gone downhill it seems at EHS since Coach Wood retired, the flood and the trailer plant closed. Elba is now 2A and I don't think football games have the ghost town but rather ghost bleacher effect these days. It's just sad that such a rich tradition can be lost.

I know what you mean, I graduated in 91 and we were 4A I think, I remeber my SR. year having to play Elba, Luverne and Louisville. I think Slocomb is 3A. I haven't been down there to see a game in a while, but I know the talent level is not where it was back when I was in school.

Thanks for getting the information for me, cause I have no clue as to who I would need to call the AD dept or SI dept.

The lady that got these autographed items for auctions does not have the names of the people she ultimately spoke with. You just have to know her and the fact that she is a bulldog and doesn't give up until she gets what she is after. She made a call to the athletic department and kept telling her story until she was put in touch with the right person that could help her. Sorry, I don't have more information but that is all she remembers. Maybe someone else reading this can be of more assistance.

The best time to get things signed would be in the Spring. With that being said,on Fan Day, I approached Tank Connerly with a request for CNS. Tank has been the Head Equipment Man there for years. The church I attend has an older member that mentally functions as a 10 year old. I asked Tank to pass a note along to CNS for me. Today, I received in the mail an autographed picture from CNS to our church member. You could call the Football Building at 205 345 6000 or 205 348 3692. I hope this helps you out.

Thanks everyone, I called the University today and they got me in touch with the football media relations, they emailed me a form to fill out that has to be approved by the compliance dept. who in turn will contact us when it is approved and then get the football to them for Coach Saban to sign and sent to us. So I have to deal with the compliance office to get an autograph football to be auctioned off, to make sure everyone is compliant with the NCAA. So going to get it to them tomorrow so the ball can get rolling.
