🏈 A few questions about 2010

I'm so anxious for January 7 to get here that I can't even talk about it anymore so I thought I'd throw out a few questions for 2010.

1. Is Bama the preseason #1? If so, would a poor performance against Texas affect that?

2. Who are the main 4 starting defensive backs, assuming KJ returns?

3. Will BJ Scott finally get some PT?

4. What spot does Fluker take on the line?

5. Which young receiver will step up, if any - Kelly, Bowman, Bell, or Norwood?

Well, I'm by no means an authority or anything, but I'll give my best guesses.

1) Not sure, but if we beat Texas, we should get at least a top 10 ranking if not a top 5.

2) IMO, Green, Barron, Jackson, and Kirkpatrick/Scott. If Jackson goes, I'd bet we'd see either Kirkpatrick or Scott. Reminder though, I'm not expert. lol

3) Yes, I believe he'll get significant playing time. If he isn't a starter he'll at least have a role on the team as the nickel back, which was filled a lot by Marquis Johnson this season. He's just to good to keep off the field, they'll find use for him I'm sure.

4) I think the spot Fluker will be looked at would be right tackle.

5) Really not sure about this one. I remember hearing a lot of good things about Norwood in practices, so maybe him.

Yea I think we would be #1

Kareem and Kirkpatrick on the outsides with Green and Barron on the back end and BJ prolly playing the nickel mostly.

3. Will BJ Scott finally get some PT?
yes

4. What spot does Fluker take on the line?
Replaces Drew Davis.

Bowman and Norwood should get alot of PT next year.

  1. Assuming we win over Texas...have to throw this question back at ya. Name a team in the nation that needs to be considered for number one outside of Alabama. Hell, out of the top ten pick the top five! It's going to be another year where the polls flip a lot.
  2. "Assuming KJ returns." Green and Barron playing safeties, Phelon playing Javy's position. The question to me would be who fills the *Star* role when we are in our nickel package. Scott would be ideal in that role IMO. (I still can't stop seeing him as a safety)
  3. Yes. Quite a bit.
  4. While I'd rather see him at LG, he's likely headed for RT.
  5. I'll be pleasantly shocked if any of those four get over 25 catches on the season next year.

Jesus I forgot all about Phelon transferring to Bama. Everything I've heard about him has been positive.

RE: preseason rankings

The national media will have too much of an arguement to make to justify teh spent column space to say that Bama's Offense is not effectively back next year. Instead, a more likley topic is that Bama loses an All-American on all three levels on Defense, so will CNS be able to reload there. All this goes to say, we will still have enough to be in the running for Number 1.

How teams do in Bowls will impact this as well. Remember the impact of our Sugar Bowl and Ole Miss' Cotton Bowl. It was far from predictive of things to come, but it still did not keep the media from voting that way.

1. No idea. I know we handled them at the beginning of this year, but I'd put VT in my pre-season Top 5 next year along with Oregon and Alabama. No clue on the other two.

2. No Dre? Also, should we expect a RS for Milliner or will he get on the field?

LSU has just recruited too well to lose the bone-head games they have lost. The loss to Ole Miss was inexcusable, and they darn near lost to Mississippi State. The loss to us was predictable and happened as it should, of course ;).

My vote for preseason #1, right or wrong, probably is going to be somewhere around Ohio State-Alabama. But what about Boise? If they win their game, and I believe they will, I'm not sure what they lose next year, but they sure have been good the last few years.

I was just looking at their depth chart a few minutes ago...

Their starting 22 this season has 2 seniors...at Full Back and Corner Back.

I'd hate for them to have a one game season (i.e. bowl game) for the NC.

They've got Va. Tech the first week of October next season at Fed Ex Field.

Oregon State is still on their schedule. I think that's a home game for BSU though...

Thanks for that link...The place I work at blocks the most innocuous web pages, yet I'm posting right now at work, on this page. Go figure.

Anyway, that's a mighty young team that was uber-impressive in the handful of games it played on national tv. The win over Oregon, early as it might have been, was impressive. A win over Va tech to start the year next year might be all they need to ascend to that top spot.

I just think of Boise as the Florida State of the early 80's. In that state, football hadn't really made it's name, other than Miami, yet. And even Miami didn't have a long track record. UF was the better known school, and they hadn't beaten anyone in years. Yet, here comes this program, led by a younger Bobby Bowden, who started taking on all that would play them. And beating them. Suddenly, a dynasty was born. That's how I see Boise now, though the success extends back two coaches, and has been ongoing for several years now.

I think we will be preseason #1. Don't want to be too overconfident but I think we will be an even better team next year.

We get 9 back on offense and I still stand by my prediction that our defense will "overall" be better next year.

1. I look for the D-line to get quicker and get a better rush.
2. Our LB coming in are sick! We'll be ok even if we do lose McClain to the draft. Can you imagine if he comes back?:hyper:
3. The secondary is in great shape. The safeties are set. If KJ comes back, all we have to do is fill one CB spot with Dre K.

We are set up for a dynasty run not seen since the 70's.:td:
