šŸˆ A Few Interesting Stats

T&B

Member
1. Starting Safety D.Thompson leads the team with 15 tackles, Starting DT Quinnen Williams is second in tackles with 14. (Thompson also leads team in PBUs, and interceptions... he's gone full beast mode)

Then its Xavier McKinney with 13.

Then we get to our starting ILB's -

Mack has 12 tackles, Dylan has 10.

Interesting that our starting safety and DT have a significant lead in tackles over our starting inside Linebackers. (I've suspected that the ILB's are not necessarily tearing it up out there)

2. Najee leads the team in rushing yards. 30 carries for 210. D.Harris 24 carries 179.

Interestingly Tua who is known as the "best passer" of the QB's is third on the team with 14 carries for 106 yards, and Hurts who is the "best runner" has 12 carries for 61 yards.

3. Skyler Delong is averaging 35 yards per punt, with a long of 39 yards. Yikes.

4. Quinnen Williams leads the team in tackles for loss with 4.

5. Christian Miller is leading the team in sacks with 2.5

6. Tuas completion percentage is 72%. In 50 attempts he has 8 TD passes. That is damn near 20% of passes going for TD's.

7. Jerry Jeudy has 11 receptions for 287 yards for an average of 26 yards per reception all tops on the team.

8. Alabama has three receivers that average 20 or more yards per catch. Jeudy, D.Smith, and Waddle

9. With 9 receptions for 122 yards, and 2 TD's Irv Smith is third on the team in receptions, yards, and TD's. Bama fans finally have their TE making a big impact in the passing game. Roll Tide

10. Jerry Jeudy is averaging 95 yards receiving, and 2 TD's per game.

11. Alabama leads the nation in points per game at 56.7 points per game.

12. The first quarter is the only quarter that Tua has played in its entirety. Alabama is averaging 20 points per first quarter which is far and away tops in the nation.

13. Bama is 7th in the nation (1st in the SEC) allowing only 9 points per game. Two of these TD's that I can think of happened vs the second and third string defenses.

Not shocked that our safeties are leading in tackles... When you've got such big leads the opponents are going to throw it downfield more.

The Q Williams thing is just awesome. That kid is special. Just occurred to me if he keeps this up, we may lose all 3 starters this off season (all 5 if you count Miller/Jennings as quasi D Lineman... Jennings a RS junior tho).

Said it from the jump that the surprise part of playing 2 QB's will be each one beating the D in "opposite" ways. Tua is a very good runner, especially when he's such a passing threat... Jalen's passing is improving, especially when D's expect a run. Works out nicely for both (so far)

Hoping Christian Miller turns it on from here on out. Think we will need a dominant edge rusher at some point. He's our best bet!

Also picked up the following from George on theRant -

Pro football focus ranking defensive players:

1. Quinnen Williams - Alabama (94.6)

leading the nation with a 96.0 grade against the run and his 86.2 pass-rush grade ranks fifth among interior defensive linemen. Williams has the No. 3 run-stop percentage among interior players at 24.4, and he has three QB hits and five hurries on 64 rushes.

2. Deionte Thompson - Alabama (94.0)

Thompson’s opening night game against Louisville was one of the best you’ll see from a safety. The junior made plays all over the field, picking off a pass from center field, breaking up a pass in the slot and picking up a sack as a blitzer. On the season, Thompson has the highest coverage grade among anyone in the country as he has two interception and three pass breakups to go with six total stops.

I would agree if I wasn't seeing both Wilson and Moses in the wrong gap far too often.

Hoping Christian Miller

Hopefully Miller can do it when it counts, and not against an over-matched team during a blowout. I will say that I saw Miller commit yet another personal foul this past week, but it wasn't called. He needs to provide more leadership than that.

9. With 9 receptions for 122 yards, and 2 TD's Irv Smith is third on the team in receptions, yards, and TD's. Bama fans finally have their TE making a big impact in the passing game. Roll Tide

Can you imagine what OJ Howard could accomplish in this offense? He's making some NFL teams look really bad this year, with Ryan Fitzpatrick of all QB's!!!!

I have Howard in fantasy but screwed up and started Graham over him this last week. Cost me as OJ put up really good numbers.

.

To be fair... he doesn't get a lot of practice/attempts ;)

He has 9 total attempted punts. 2 of which inside the 20. Leaving 7 to grade.

Not the greatest by any means, but there were also Zero return yards. If he can just get his base up to the 40+ yard range with Zero return yards, we'll be good.

Exact same situation

I'm in total agreement. Our first three opponents are known for airing it out and that's what they tried to do. Thompson is playing Center Field and doing the best job I've seen in a long while. He is absolutely everywhere. I was thinking he was gonna be more of a Ronnie Harrison/Landon collins type safety that wanted to knock your head off, but he's them plus a killer cover guy. McKinney isn't far behind in his abilities, and being just a Sophomore he'll be right there soon enough.

Being in the wrong gap means zero when the ball is in the air more than on the ground when considering tackles for the backers.

The more I see Tua sling that rock, the more it makes sense to me that Thompson & Diggs are playing lights out in games. I'm sure the whole secondary is thinking they are just thrilled to play against someone else besides Tua & Co in practice.

From covering guys to the increased amount of swatted footballs, the pass defense is coming up with all kinds of ways to stop a QB after practicing against our 1's & 2's all week.

He has 9 total attempted punts. 2 of which inside the 20. Leaving 7 to grade.
My theme evidently is going to be overeaction because here I am again.

The numbers don't tell the story at all. Yet, people are looking at the numbers and thinking "oh my." Off the top of my head I can think of three punts that were at the tail end of games. Two against Arky State with Brian Robinson running, right? We saw Jerome Ford at the end of the Louisville game and Skylar punted then.

One of those 32 yard punts was also one of those inside the 20 punts. Which stat are you going to look at?

Last week there was a punt of 35 yards. I can't remember which is was: there were two. As I recall Ole Miss got the ball around their 45 and had two series. Now, 35 yards in a situation like that isn't ideal. But, being up 62-7 at the time has to play into it, ya know?

BTW,
Two punts against Ole Miss four against Arkansas State, and three against Louisville Going back to your grading of kicks the roughing the kicking penalty called against Arky State was declined but still goes into the record book as a punt.

Oh and Ironically... His longest punt was the running into the kicker declined penalty... ;)
