It Takes Eleven

Hey Guys,

Had weekend guests and haven't had a chance to offer up much on the Clemson game. What a great game, and what a great atmosphere. All has been said much better than I can, but I just wanted to toss in a few things.

1. Everything begins and ends with our defensive line play. Our defensive line dominated. Cody, Washington, all of those guys were difference makers.
2. This year, improved offensive line play is a reality. Gone are the days of our backs having to take evasive actions in the backfield, and getting contact in the backfield. I haven't looked at the play chart closely, but we seemed to run more to the right after Andre went down.
2. Our backs are getting yards after contact. Ingram is going to be something special, and the improvement in Coffee's explosiveness and leg drive has kept him number one. Upchurch impressed. This time last year, I never though Grant would be our fourth option this season. He may end up being relegated to scat back situations, although I think he will still produce for us in that role.
3. Although our backs and tight ends produced in stats, I was just as impressed with their blocking. On one play, Upchurch just demoralized a blitzing linebacker.
4. JPW played a good, controlled game. He was accurate in his passes (and was well supported by a sticky fingered receiving corp), scrambled when he could and made at least one good throwaway decision. He has the best ten players supporting him since he's been a starter.
5. Maze, McCoy, Julio, Scott, et al are going to win games for us this year. Add in some sticky fingered tight ends and good play calls, and things are really looking up.
6. Clemson was so worried about our backs in the pattern that they overlooked our tight ends. Ingram made a nice catch out of the backfield, and Grant is poised to break one from the edge.

RTR,

Tim

Another good post from our staff!

I'd like to add I was impressed with Arenas at his corner spot. He was out of position a few times, but he had no problems flying in to disrupt a run. He went all out.
