šŸŒŽ A Donated Air Force One

The plane is going to his Presidential library. ā€œTrump will use the aircraft as his presidential plane until shortly before he leaves office in January 2029, when ownership will be transferred to the foundation overseeing his yet-to-be-built presidential library.ā€- Wall Street Journal. So, it’s a gift directly to him not to the country.
I've already mentioned this stomp. It's been well publicized. It's a gift to the DoD. Now, when I mentioned I was still weighing things...the decommissioning thing is that very thing. But, it's more complicated ...

Here's why I had the little exchange with @footballer earlier about "sit back and watch." The plane is scheduled to be used by the DoD. At the end of his term it's going to be moved to his Presidential Library. He said the other day he wasn't going to be using it when he leaves office.

The complication comes in this form and goes back (at least publicly debated) to the Clinton's. Gifts, from foreign countries, to Presidential Libraries. It gets real murky here...
Obama didn’t keep the gift. Hillary PAID for the necklace that she kept. Trump isn’t paying anything. Comparing those gifts to a 400 million is damn laughable.
Your premise is false. Everything said here is meaningless considering it isn't a gift to Trump.

People do not like the way this is "framed." But, nevertheless, it's a gift to the DoD and then a gift to his library. Neither of these break any law. From my perspective, most just don't like the "look."

I find it funny that all this is being done right in front of everyone. And here, you've chosen to point to Hillary. Hillary, the same lady who was forced to return items they took from the White House when they left. Most, refer to that as theft. It's akin to several networks bringing in Michael Cohen as someone people should listen to...just a odd example/person to bring into the conversation.

I find it funny that Boeing has been paid for these planes. They haven't met their due date and aren't expected to soon. A foreign country gives the DoD a free plane (granted, needs retrofitted) and people are screaming about the whole thing. The only other alternative is to what? Spend billions to get one ready to retrofit?

I find it funny that people choose to voice a narrative that this will in some way impact a decision POTUS may consider in the future. As if, it's a "bribe" for influence. People know who the man is when it comes to negotiations. And, in spite of knowing this, are suggesting something that goes against what they know. Literally, the same people who say he is a dictator also say this.

You see this, right?

So, it’s a gift directly to him not to the country.

You are disagreeing with what you are citing. Along with, conveniently, dismissing "presidential plane" under the guise of "not country."

By the time this gift is converted to an operating AF1, Trump will be out of office for several years. At that point the current AF1 will be outdated. So why put an AF1 that Trump never used into his library? It would make more sense to put the current, existing AF1 into his library since it is what he used and has limited functional use as an AF1. Put the new, updated AF1 into the fleet.

There are two under construction, they will be put into action.

Here's something that caught my attention. It depends on who you read, listen to, etc. I caught a retired guy from the Air Force a day or two ago saying it could be as little as several months. NBC has published "years." Which is it? Frankly, we don't know. I feel confident in thinking it could be done pretty quickly if the decision was made to expedite the retrofit.

The current Air Force One is already outdated. So, you lost me a bit there. Reagan was using the current plane. The one they retired when he was in office is in his library.

I saw a projection earlier today that Boeing is projected to have both planes finished, at the latest, in 2028. The first in Sept of '2026 at the earliest.

They were supposed to be delivered in 2024.

Doesn’t change the new one (the gift) not being ready during Trump’s term. What’s the value of displaying a jet that Trump never used?
Think about this for a second. You don't think the DoD could get the job done pretty quickly if need be? Let's say something happened and the current plane is out of commission for good. You don't think they'd have a replacement, ready, quickly?

This "it's going to take years" doesn't pass my logic test.

AF1 is not a single plane. There are currently multiple 747s in the fleet that can be used as AF1. The designation of AF1 is any plane that is carrying the President. If a destination airport cannot handle a 747, there are several 757s that can serve as AF1.

Yes, they should be able to get the new plane ready. Remember, Boeing is building the new AF1s and Boeing would be doing the work to convert the gift plane. It all comes down to who is managing the project(s).

It won't be displayed, it'll be for Trump's personal use, post-presidency.
Monday, he said he wouldn't be using the plane according to what I read.

The thing I find the most amusing is I'm watching Iran talking about "coming to the table," Syria is now at the table, a jet deal worth almost $100B, and what was it, a $600B dollar deal with Saudi Arabia...and the focus is on a plane with a few criticizing the meeting with the Syrian leader.

I'm certainly entertaining the idea that they throw something out there knowing the MSM is going to chase after it like a mutt after a passing car...it'll be gone soon and they, like the mutt, are looking for the next car to chase.

I think Trump does that a lot and the media never lets him down.
