What gets lost with the countless Jalen discussions and what he can't do is the potential and reality of what Tua can do. I don't think we're just talking about a very good QB here. I don't see it with his extraordinary passing skill or rushing ability. If we were comparing Tua's potential to AJ McCarron's reality I would still say that he is going to be the best QB of the Nick Saban era. I would rather have Tua than AJ or anyone else at this point. Continuing to compare him to someone who is just adequate throwing the football is no contest and can't possibly be fair to Jalen or Tua. All this friendly advice we keep getting from some that we have to let this play out or that play out between our QBs is crazy talk.

Tua's gifts have nothing to do with anyone else but Tua. And I'm excited about the possibility and will most certainly remain so.

First or was it the second pass attempt by Jalen, showed me more or less all I needed to see. Instead of stepping up into the pocket to survey the field, he quickly bailed to his right. Moved right into the end that the RT was pushing out, continued to give ground and threw it away.
We can say it was against our 1st team D, our O Line struggled, receivers dropped passes, he is 26-2 as the starter, etc. Same problems still ring true. He struggles against better than average defenses. 26-2 sounds great, but he has had the benefit of possibly one of the greatest college defenses of all time in '16 and all of those NOTS to boot. Had the greatest damn punter in history too. We can say leader this, leader that, but 3rd down percentages are key in my book as well.
I love the kid, so don't come at me about bashing the kid. I have supported him, but his struggles shine through in the biggest games. 9/20 for 100 yards isn't going to cut it in the BIG games. Padding stats against weaker defenses has led some to look past those 4-5 games.

Yes. Tua is also gifted mentally. He is elite in terms of mentality, confidence, flare, etc. Could see that in high school in interviews regarding why he was coming to UA. He's just on another level as a grounded and humble competitor. And the way he slings it physically is amazing. Throw in the fact that he can run too, you're right on point in terms of the best Saban QB and it may not be close when said and done.

JMO but Jalen would be more successful (passing that is) in the offense we ran in the middle 60's, Roll the kid out and flood the area with 3 middle range receivers. Use the hash and roll him to the wide side of the field. Then again the defense is going to learn that scheme as well and counter. You can only fool them so long.

A sprint out package or a zone read package with Jalen is where he excels the best. Put him on the edge with a run/pass option would put defenses in a bind.

I rewatched the game this morning and while I am and have been a fan of what Tua skills bring to our offense, Jalen's day wasn't that bad. I know the stats aren't good and the way he missed some of those passes was bad but he would have had more yards and more td's had he been a live player. Where he can be most dangerous is down in the redzone where he can take off and score and during the game he had to settle for FG's.

The main reason for his struggles was the D-line. Tom Brady would have struggled with the rush that was coming thru the line. Normally as a QB you hope for 3- 4 seconds to throw the ball. Hurts was lucky if he had 2 seconds and it was coming from up the middle and from both sides.. looked like a jail break.

As I stated before, against great defenses, I think Tua's skill set is more effective but I think some of you guys should give Jalen a little but of a break. Watch the game again and watch how quick those guys are shooting into the backfield and remember it's just touch you and your down for Hurts.

Anyway, reguardless of what his dad did or didn't say, he has been all class since he has been here and I would hope everyone would remember that before piling on the kid.

I disagree. Most of those sacks came after he made his drop and had a fair chance to throw the pass or throw it away. Tom Brady wouldn't hold onto the ball after his drop unless making a quick move to extend the play and throw it ASAP. Jalen does nothing on time or subtle in the pocket. He had plenty of chances to get rid of the ball before taking sacks.

Watch the first pass of the second quarter that should've been an INT. He had time, the WR was heading to the open space in between the 2 zone depths, and he hesitates (takes the "sack), and throws an INT.

Even if the WR isn't open he needs to throw the ball away or at someone's feet... If he's trying to become a passer.

Jalen isn't going to be a pure passer.. not his game. No question he is way to slow to read, most of the time doesn't make it past his second read if first. I spent the games I watched him the last two years, screaming at the TV for him to THOW IT!!

But as I said, he would have had a better game had it been live. He was under immediate pressure most of the time and it was one hand touch on him. If he steps up in the pocket he is downed immediately, he had some drops, made some bad decisions and bad throws too but if he was live I think he converts at least on of those red zone trips and probably has a little better day. Yes Tom Brady gets rid of the ball fast but with the d-line coming thru in 1 second and one hand touch rule.. it would have been tough for him too.

He is the same guy we had last year. If you didn't like him last year you aren't going to be a fan this year. I think he is what he is and that is a below average throwing QB, with good running ability and a great attitude. I am just saying some of the Alabama nation are spewing venom at the kid and he, while not the greatest QB in Bama history, has been a classy kid who has done it the right way. He just deserves a little more respect than he is getting from some... not neccesarily on this site but you guys have seen it out there too.

We just disagree on Saturday... He had plenty of chances to get rid of the ball on time and didn't. All the rest we agree on
