I'll dare to suggest that Alabama gave JoePa a little heartburn in his coaching career. Examples are numerous; the most popular example would probably be the Sugar Bowl which is still talked about today.

Setting aside all the BS that ended Paterno's career in Happy Valley, here's a note we might call "one of those trivia type questions/answers." Personally, I'd never put it together until I read what Brian had to say in an interview with CampusSports.com

What was the craziest environment you played in outside of Tuscaloosa?

This one is a little up in the air. Death Valley is definitely the loudest. Texas A&M was the most unique with all of their chants. Auburn is usually amped up because of the magnitude of the game. I’m going to have to go outside the SEC though and give it to Penn State. We gave JoePa his last loss in Happy Valley and they “whited” us out. Their fans did not care what the score of the game was they were going to have the same energy from the opening kick off to the final whistle.

Yes, we were there. I absolutely loved the place. The PSU fans were very nice before and after the game. Beautiful area of the country as well.

There's another interesting piece of "trivia" associated with that game: Alabama was the last team to beat Joe Pa and the last team Joe Pa beat was Illinois, same as Coach Bryant.

Wow, can't believe Penn State got the nod. I just wonder if it was because of us playing them which is not a traditional game? I understand they pack that stadium out every weekend, but from what I've heard, I don't know how LSU didn't get the vote. He knows better than me though.

Just another plug for Penn State from an Alabama perspective. I live in the Baltimore/Ellicott City, Maryland area. Naturally, many folks in this region have ties to Penn State. I have a good friend at work who is a Penn State engineering school graduate. The friend invited me and two others from our workplace (both Maryland fans) to the Penn State vs. Maryland game at Beaver Stadium, November 1, 2014. We were his guests at an indoor tailgating event sponsored by the PSU engineering school. The people there were quite friendly and respectful. The ones who were told that I am an Alabama alumnus and Tide fan all wanted to talk about the past Alabama/Penn State games and the Joe Pa/Bryant rivalry. By the way, this was my second trip to Happy Valley, the first one being in 1989 when we beat Penn State 17-16 on a last-play field goal attempt!
