JSU head coach Jack Crowe. JSU has an incredible team this season, easily the best team he has fielded at JSU...perhaps the best team he has ever coached. They played at Georgia Tech, losing by a respectable 37-17, and Perriloux was suspended for that game. FSU had to come from behind in the final minute to beat JSU. In 3 games against FCS teams, JSU has won 45-13, 60-10, and 52-7. Sounds good, right?
The problem? JSU is ineligible for the playoffs due to NCAA APR probation.
8 years at JSU and he takes them to the playoffs twice, getting blown out twice in the first round.
Finally he has a good team, and JSU will be at home for the holidays. No chance for a championship.
Its a coaches' job to win games, and make sure his players are doing what is needed to maintain academic success.
Crowe has failed at both.
JSU is moving up to FBS. They are currently renovating Paul Snow stadium to meet capacity requirements, and have already met the requirement for women's athletics. Its time for them to ditch Crowe and hire a decent coach. There are too many quality coaches that would be willing to take the job for them to settle with Crowe.
Jeff Bower is available and if he could win at USM, he could win at JSU. He knows the Southeast, and how to evaluate talent that the big boys pass on.
DuBose would take the job. He has had incredible success at Milsaps, and knows the recruiting territory.
Tommy Bowden won at Tulane...he could win at JSU, and might conceivably take the job...Terry is at UNA, and it is a large step down from JSU.
Mike Shula would be a step up from Crowe, but I doubt he would take the job. He probably makes more as a QB coach in the NFL than he would as the head coach at JSU. Crowe's base salary is around $150,000.
Heck, hire tater tot away from UNA...he would be an upgrade, and JSU could easily pay more.
I just keep asking myself...why do they stick with Crowe?
