Wooooo!

Via Twitter:

"Thanks to everyone that has supported me this far I'm happy to say I am committed to the University of Alabama!! #RollTide" - @marlon_humphrey

He is the top prospect out of Alabama, the 3rd best CB prospect in the nation, and the 12th ranked recruit overall.

I think with Marlon Humphrey comes Malachi Dupree as well. That just might be reinforced by this tweet from Marlon's sister:

Marlon's sister just now -------- Brittley Humphrey @brittleyH 19m

If Malachi commits to Bama it's gone be over with....

Hey I have lived up north and we don't have a few inches of snow. We have pure ice on our roads. We don't have equipment to salt the roads or snow plow things. Driving on ice anywhere without treatment is not possible. I have already heard from one of my Meechigan friend that lives in Birmingham. It took him over 4 hours to get home last night because he believed being from Michigan helped him drive on ice. He was wrong. He got stranded. PhillyGirl

Woof, that stinks. We've had ice and snow on the roads for weeks, Philly plows are nonexistent (notoriously so up where I am), but no schools/work closed since the big snowstorm a week or two ago. I am looking forward to the weekend with its "hot" weather (30-40 degrees!!) to melt it all .. I haven't seen grass or clear roads since December .. This has been the coldest, snowiest winter in our area that I can remember. I guess it seems to be the same way even deep down South!

And here I thought eventually moving down there someday would save me from the frigid north .. :tongue-new:

Good news to hear, now we just have to get all those signatures faxed in on National Signing Day and make it official. RTR!

Hijacking the thread a second.

Here we are in 2014 and the NCAA is just now exploring options so kids don't have to fax anymore.

2014!!!
:icon_scratch: :shake:

It's so cold down here I saw Smokey the Bear with a pack of matches.

Marlon Humphrey, five-star cornerback from Hoover High School in Ala., surprised many on Wednesday morning by announcing via Twitter his commitment to Alabama. Humphrey was scheduled to announce next Wednesday during a signing day ceremony at Hoover. However, he was ready to pull the trigger and possibly help try to recruit a few players to join him.

Humphrey's commitment is a big one as Alabama has been in search of cornerbacks. They have two five-star cornerbacks in this class with Humphey and Tony Brown. Humphrey is the No. 2 rated corner and Brown No. 4. Jabrill Peppers ranks No. 1 and Jalen Tabor No. 3. Humphrey is the top rated player in Alabama and listed No. 9 overall in the country.

Alabama was considered the team to beat throughout the majority of Humphrey's recruitment. He jumped on the recruiting scene when he was only a sophomore. Many realized he would turn into one of the most highly recruited players in the country. He wouldn't ever say Alabama was his leader during his sophomore or junior season, but many expected the Tide No. 1. He attended the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Chicago last summer where he earned the Defensive Skills MVP award after a dominating performance. He matched up against elite five-stars like Travis Rudolph, Malachi Dupre and Ermon Lane throughout the weekend. This was the first time Humphrey revealed Alabama as his No.1 school.

Humphrey visited Florida State last summer. The Seminoles made a very strong move during the visit and suddenly became the Tide's biggest threat. He had a great relationship with the coaching staff. He loved the track program (a few friends also on the team). He built a very strong relationship with Jeremy Pruitt. His departure to Georgia played a role in Alabama regaining the advantage for Humphrey's signature.

In talking with several people in the last couple of weeks, several close to the Humphrey family, others closer to the Alabama coaching staff, were saying Florida State was the leader heading into the weekend trip to Alabama. Bobby Humphrey likely felt a lot of pressure, but he was going to let Marlon make his own decision. I spoke with someone very close to the Humphrey family after the weekend visit about where things stood with the five-star. The response, "He is all Bama." I also reached out to a few others a little closer to the Alabama program. Most of the coaches felt Humphrey would pick Alabama (on signing day), but it remained close.

Marlon doesn't enjoy the recruiting spotlight. He doesn't enjoy interviews. Some have commented the way he acted when Mike Farrell interviewed him at the Under Armour game. He didn't look happy. Marlon has been on just about every high school magazine cover possible. He was asked to do countless interviews between his sophomore and senior year. I don't think he ever expected things to go the way it did. I don't think anyone can expect it. He's a high profile prospect who is the son of a high profile former Alabama player. He was surprised when his father told him they needed to alert the media about when he wanted to announce his decision. He didn't want to make a big deal of it. He just wanted to commit. That's why, while Hoover was out of school today, he decided to tweet his decision unexpectedly this morning. He and his dad may not do any interviews between now and signing day.

This was definitely a big win for Alabama. They held on to a legacy, the state's top player, and a player of need. Alabama has an impressive defensive back unit which also includes Tony Brown, Ronnie Clark, Hootie Jones and Chris Williams. They also have great group of in-state players which includes four members of the Rivals100 in Humphrey, Bo Scarbrough, Ronnie Clark and Shaun Dion Hamilton.

Humphrey will have a lot of eyes on him from the name alone. The casual fan who doesn't follow recruiting wantsto see how the son of Bobby Humphrey performs on the field. He will have a microscope on him, but has the ability to live up to those expectations. Alabama has signed the best defensive backs the state has to offer through the years with five-stars like Dre Kirkpatrick and Dee Milliner. The two were drafted in the first round after their junior season.

Track is a major part of his decision and will join the Alabama track team. His plans to compete in the Olympics remains. However, he also has the dreams of playing in the NFL. He has the skill set, ability, size and speed to develop into an elite college defensive back for the Tide. He has the chance to play in the NFL if he maintains focused and continues to improve. He has the tools, excellent skills and coverage ability that Nick Saban wants when recruiting defensive backs. This was a home run for the staff especially now with also having a commitment from Tony Brown.

Humphrey won't arrive at Alabama until June unlike Brown who is on campus. However, he will arrive ready to compete. He will go through summer work-outs and 7-on-7 sessions with the team. He provides immediate depth at cornerback. He will also challenge the guys who are ahead of him. He will challenge these players which will help make them better. Will he play a lot in the fall? A lot depends on how well he performs in August. He will definitely push the guys on campus.
