Coach Patterson lost one of her best gymnasts last week. ACL?

Going into the last meet one of the girls, Diandra Milliner (Sr.,) pulled or strained a muscle in warm-ups so they held her out of the meet. That was a pretty big blow; All-American and NCAA champ on the vault.

The girl you're thinking about is Kayla Williams. She hasn't competed in a meet all year. Like Milliner, she was hurt during warm-ups before the Mizzou meet.

Kayla Williams, that's right. Thanks for the clarification.

As most here will attest I enjoying following GymTide. Here I am in my mid-40's and have literally grown up following Coach Patterson.

(For those that might not know this...Sarah Patterson was hired by Coach Bryant.)

There's a handful of us here that follow softball along with men's and women's golf as avidly as you follow the hockey team.

One of my biggest regrets about my time in Tuscaloosa is that I didn't go to one gymnastics event.

You should make it a point to do so. If you guys can make it to a hockey game, what's another hour on the road, ya know?

The SEC and the National Championship are in Birmingham this season. It's much more enjoyable, in my opinion, when there are at least three teams competing. If we're able to host a regional the ladies won't leave the state for the post-season (as rival gymnastics fans claim a SEC/Alabama conspiracy.)

Freshman gymnast Dominique Pegg represented her home country, Canada, in the 2012 Olympics in London. She finished 17th in the all-around in the Summer Games. She accomplished those things before turning 19.

But in Friday's Power of Pink meet, she will do something many gymnasts, and people affected by breast cancer, only dream of: She will be introduced to the crowd at the University of Alabama gymnastics meet beside her mother, Cathi Parker, who is a breast cancer survivor.
"I think it will be a little emotional because it's just a recent thing that's happened," Pegg said. "She's still not even done all of her recovery yet, but she's totally cancer free now so that's good. Yeah, I think it will be really special, for sure."
For the first time in its 10-year history, the Power of Pink meet will feature a gymnast's mother. Parker will travel down from Canada to be one of the cancer survivors recognized before the meet against Arkansas.
The gymnasts' theme for this season as a whole is "Once Upon a Time," because UA has an opportunity to do something that few gymnastics team have ever accomplish: The season begins and potentially ends for this Alabama team in its own state, with the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Championships begin held in Birmingham.
But the theme can be said about Friday's meet, too.
"This is the first time," Alabama coach Sarah Patterson said. "We've had aunts, we've had family members come in. (Former UA gymnast) Ashley Sledge had a family member come in and march out with her. But this will be the first time it is a mom."

The 5-foot-2 freshman from Sarnia, Canada, also has a grandmother who has survived breast cancer, so recognizing those who have overcome breast cancer is doubly important for Pegg.
"It's special because, like I said, my mom and my grandma – what they went through was quite rough," Pegg said. "It made them stronger, for sure, and it's really good that we have this so we make it aware for other people, other women, because that's what it's all about: getting people aware. And I'm excited about that."
Alabama was always a top choice for the Olympian when deciding on a college to attend, but Pegg was unaware of the Crimson Tide and Patterson's tradition of honoring those who have survived breast cancer with the annual pink-themed meet. For Pegg, it just came as an added bonus.
"I was more focusing on how awesome the gymnastics was and coaches and stuff," Pegg said. "Then once I came here I kind of fully found out what it was about and how Sarah made it and everything like that, which made it even better."
Senior Kim Jacob has experienced four Power of Pink meets and has seen a lot in her time at Alabama. But Pegg's situation will be unique.
"I can't even imagine how much this must mean to her, and just her getting to walk out her mom. It's going to make me cry," Jacob said. "It's so awesome and inspiring, and I'm sure she is so excited."

Big meet in Baton Rouge this Friday night.

On a very positive note, in two of the three meets this season the ladies of GymTide have scored 197 or better twice for the first time in the programs history.

Putting that in perspective:

Five of the six teams that advanced to the final meet in the NCAA championships last season scored 197 or better. The Tide, crowned champion, scored 197.850.

Anyway I can watch them through something say VIPBox?

I doubt it. I'm sure there will be a replay.

FWIW, the replay of the meet on the 18th is going to be broadcast today at 1PM eastern on CSS.

With four events, a lot of the time three and four of those running simutaneously, it's a hard to broadcast from a TV production angle.

You can get live scoring from rolltide.com.

W. Gymnastics. No. 7 Gymnastics Falls at No. 3 LSU, 197.650-196.825

The No. 7 Alabama gymnastics team fell to No. 3 LSU by a score of 197.650-196.825 in front of 8,055 fans in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Friday night.

"We had a good meet tonight," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "We're improving each week and this was a good road score, but you have to give credit to LSU, they are competing at a championship level right now."

It marks the first time Alabama has fallen to the Tigers during either the regular or postseason since Feb. 5, 2010 in a dual meet in Baton Rouge. It also marked the second year in a row that the Tide has drawn a large crowd in the PMAC. This year's total was the second largest in LSU history after last year's Tide and Tiger showdown drew a Tiger school record 8,574 fans.

"I hope our fans understand, we're going to be a great team," Patterson said. "We just have to continue to improve each week. LSU is in championship mode right now and they were the better team tonight, but we're getting better as we go along and building as we go along."

Senior Sarah DeMeo led the Tide with a 39.450 in the all-around, tying her career-best score. Junior Kaitlyn Clarkalso had a big night, tying her career-high of 9.9 on the uneven bars and a posting a career-best 9.925 on the vault to lead Alabama on both apparatus.

"That was the best all-around performance in Sarah DeMeo'scareer," Patterson said. "And Kaitlyn made some mistakes in warm-up and I talked to her about the mental corrections she needed to make and she went out there and did it."

Alabama finished off the night with a 49.275 on the balance beam led by a 9.925 from senior Kim Jacob. Clark led the Crimson Tide to a 49.125 on the uneven bars with a 9.9 while DeMeo got the night started with a 9.85 on the uneven bars. Clark came right back after the uneven bars and scored a career-best 9.925 to lead the Tide off on the vault, pacing the squad to 49.300. DeMeo and Jacob both posted 9.875s on the floor exercise, pushing the Tide to a 49.125 team mark.

The Tide returns home for it next meet in a battle of champions between six-time NCAA Champion Alabama and 10-time champion Georgia, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262), located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at RollTide.com.
