I have a question in regards to Phelon Jones. In all likelyhood(word?) he willnot get his release from LSU to join our team. If this happens and he walks on will he still count towards LSU's 85 rule? If it happens he will not be on scholly here but still have a spot at LSU. Just curious and something up for debate. After we find the answer, do you think/believe if a athlete chooses to leave and is not granted the release, should he count towards that teams total scholly numbers for the year he is ineligible for scholly at his new school? Hope I did not confuse anyone. Discuss....

If Miles was going to give him an unconditional release, which I think he already has fwiw, to Auburn what makes you think something will change because it's Bama- that is, if we do decide to take him.

I just think he hates Bama.CNS that much. I wouldn't put it past him. Phelon Jones to AU is not that big of a deal considering they are not as loaded as we are. Jones would provide instant depth for us/maybe even start, he has that kind of potential IMO. The connection of CNS and LSU/Miles will be the key factor though. Think of it this way. He releases Jones to us. In 2010 he becomes a starter (not saying it will happen, just a thought) and in the LSU game Jones is the MVP of the game. Now that would cause alot of grief for Miles. Not only do we have CNS, but now we have former players of LSU contibuting to the destruction of thier program. I just see it as a lose lose situation for miles either way but also thought it was a great topic for discussion.

First, check your PM's.

Here's my thought on that...

I don't see Miles suddenly saying "you can't go to Bama." He might, but in the end I think if the press got ahold of the story it would be a PR nightmare - if only briefly.

It would really demonstrate Saban is in Miles head...and I can't see Miles doing something like that.

That said, he might.

As to the question...the best I recall, when Travis transferred to UF back in DuBose day he didn't count on our scholly numbers and had to pay his way his first year because he wasn't released.

That's what I recall...but, it's been almost 10 years so I may be wrong on that one.

I don't think Jones will be a starter in 2010 even if he comes to Bama. He's definitely not gonna pass up Kareem who will be a senior. So then he's gotta get through Kirkpatrick (who was the #1 corner of his class), Lawrence (who was the #2 corner in his class and will have had 2 years under Saban's coaching) and BJ Scott (who no one knows how good he'll be at corner). Very, very unlikely imo.

Could very well be true, however he would provide quality depth, and could be a killer on punt/kick off return. Lets not forget he has legit 4.4 speed and is regarded as a burner. I am not saying he will start at all. But he could contribute in a positive way. Is it to be?

He could instantly start on special teams as a returner for us when Agent 28 is gone. If he is not released to Bama, he will come in and pay his own way and be a walk-on til he gains eligibility in 2010. I've heard from numerous sources this is pretty much a done deal. I've also heard that LSU doesn't have to release him.. they aren't renewing his scholarship. It's all hear say right now.

Also, I wouldn't go so far as to say that Alonzo or a kid still in high school is a lock at any position no matter what they are ranked in high school. Injuries happen. Also, Saban's system is not as much about athletic ability as it is knowing his system to the point of reacting without thinking. Phelon could come in with something to prove and really use his off year to focus on our system and better himself as a player. He's got great size and INCREDIBLE speed. Could help with recruiting as well. "BAMA's much better than LSU!".... The only thing against him is word that he is a bit soft on the football field and avoids contact. I'm not sure I buy that though, he had 96 tackles his senior year which if I remember correctly is only 1 less than what Alonzo had... and he's a very physical player.
