He was lying two and going for the green in three. He was still left with a birdie putt for four. Just like a lot of guys who didn't try to cut the corner over the water.

Fun for the fans though. To see a guy that can hit the ball that much further than the most of us with some accuracy is fun to watch, coupled with excellence with his whole game (not just long drive competition guys). I agree with you though, that he basically accomplished what everyone else did with a lot higher of a risk associated with his tee shot. All it showed me is that he wasn't confident enough if he could get it over the water and go for the green, but wanted the press so he brought up the idea. Now we know his ball would have made it, but all I see on the score card and stats are birdie (like most others) and no fairway in regulation (unlike most others).

Gotta give him credit though, he's pulling off what folks said he couldn't. He's playing well right now.
