SEC announces 2016 football schedules

SC's first 3 conference games are on the road. In the first FOUR weeks! :shock: That has to be a first in SEC scheduling.

Next year first week going be maybe the best in SEC football games. You going to have 3 SEC vs 3 ACC, 2 SEC vs 2 PAC 12, 2 SEC vs 2 B1G, 5 SEC vs 5 other teams to lazy to look up. SEC vs SEC.

I'd have to look but my gut tells me we've seen that before.

UofSC does get a bit of a break having five home games in a row in the middle of the season.

- Off topic a bit ... going to show how much some of the fans of UofSC actually pay attention to the rest of the conference ... I had one complaining last night at work about their schedule and made the comparison to Auburn who opens with five in a row at home.

@Vandy, @ MSU, and @ UK for the 'Cocks versus AU having LSU, Clemson, and A&M in their first five. Which would you rather have?

BTW, take a look at UT's schedule. People are already "fretting" over the trip to Knoxville and I doubt they've looked at the schedule. UF, @UGA, @A&M and Bama...that's going to be a beaten up Vol team.

I doubt if they have ever scheduled any team 3 conference games in the first 4 weeks, much less 3 on the road. And of course SC would get a break thereafter because they won't have but one road game left. But, like you, my first thought when seeing who they play first was, that sure is a pure silver lining around that dark cloud.

The ut thing is long overdue. Most people are not aware that Roy Kramer was responsible for the first twenty years (1992-2011) of scheduling even though he retired in 2002. The schedules were originally released in 10 year bundles (1992-2001 & 2002-2011) and he made damn sure that Bama's was as difficult and ut's was as easy as he could make them. He released the second bundle in 2001 before retiring in 2002. Difficult to comprehend, but eight years later he was responsible for the 6 byes in 2010. :eyeroll:

Again, I'd have to look it up. You may be right. When I consider A&M and their 2012 schedule UofSC doesn't shock me. As I recall, they had seven conference games in a row, five of six on the road during one stretch.

A&M schedule in 2012 went from bad to worse because of the opener at La Tech on 8/30 being postponed and moved to their bye week on 10/13. Wound up playing 12 consecutive weeks. They didn't do themselves any favor by also playing 2 OOC games on the road. La Tech and SMU.

I'd forgotten about that until you mentioned it ... and now I recall taking La Tech to cover. Even still, that's three SEC games in a row, on the road, out of a period of four weeks (all SEC games.)

Later on today I'll try to look and see if we see anything similar in other conferences who have 14 teams. I would suggest I'll look and see if I can figure out the reasoning behind handing UofSC this type of schedule but I suspect I won't be able to figure it out. (Aside from the SEC wanting a conference game to open the season on a Thursday ... and UofSC wanting to TV exposure.) The are dealing with something similar this season but that's due to a unforeseen circumstance as well.

Any early conference game scheduling with East Division teams is related in part to the four of them, SC included, requesting the last two weeks (12-13) of the regular season be left open for their EOY ACC OOC rival games. If they also request the first week be left open as did Vince Dooley, then the SEC has but 10 weeks (2-11) in which to cram in their 8 games. UGAand SC were scheduled the first week of the season in the first four (1992-1995) years after the original expansion when the SEC took over the scheduling. Dooley whined and cried about it to the extent that the SEC has left that week open on their schedule since then.

FWIW, the East scheduling is in part the reason that Bama has more open dates, that can be used for byes, than other schools. All West schools have more open dates than East schools. If you are an AD and your team is playing Bama and you have several open dates before games with West opponents, and one of those is before Bama, which one are you going to use for a bye?
