"The 2016 SEC Football Helmet Schedule is now available. The PDF schedule features the team helmets, date, and opponent for each SEC team.

The 2016 season gets underway on Thursday, Sept. 1 when the South Carolina Gamecocks travel to Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Opening weekend features six big non-conference games — Georgia vs. North Carolina (at Atlanta, GA), Missouri at West Virginia, Alabama vs. USC (at Arlington, TX), Clemson at Auburn, LSU vs. Wisconsin (at Green Bay, WI), Ole Miss vs. Florida State (at Orlando, FL), and UCLA at Texas A&M.

Helmet schedules for the remaining FBS conferences will be posted over the next week or two."

Brings back to mind the ut thingy in 2016. For only the third time in their history they are playing four SEC opponents in four consecutive weeks. I thought Roy Kramer taught his good ole boys in the Scheduling Department not to do that because the first two times were 1962 and 1963, which were GT's last two years in the conference. In both of those years, ut played *u, MSU, GT, and Bama in consecutive weeks. Lost ALL FOUR games in BOTH years! Went 4-6 in '62 and 5-5 in '63.

Yeah, first time in a while that Bama did not have at least 3 with byes prior to playing UA.

Five of the eight were given open dates prior to their game with Bama. Ole Miss is playing Wofford. Arkansas is playing Alcorn State. ATM took the week off as did LSU. And *u is playing Alabama A&M. Unbelievable, but ut is scheduled to play at ATM the week prior to Bama!

Well, the last one is a push, since we have UTC that week. We got WKU before Ole Miss. Kentucky before Arkie. So not going to split hairs over those games.

Welcome to my side of the aisle.

It's not that ATM game by itself that has an impact on UT; it's specifically the impact it's going to have on the Vols secondary. That's coming off a weekend, in Athens, where both ends of that defense will have hands full. And what happens if Florida wins in Knoxville to start this four game stretch?

Florida has three warm-up games for Del Rio. He should be ready to play by Knoxville.

There is no way in hell they will win all four of those games. They don't have a clue as to how playing those 4 in 4 weeks will effect them.

BTW, the post about the four 'n four thingy needs a disclaimer. It does not include the few times in November that they have done that because two of the four have always been Vandy and UK.

Was just pointing out the fact that five of the eight conference opponents were given open dates prior to their game with Bama. OTOH, ut has but two, UF and SC, which is twice as many as they had in 2015. MO was the only 2015 ut SEC opponent that had an open date prior to playing them. MO played BYU on that date.

LOL! Just did a double check on the years after the Roy Kramer schedules ended in 2011. They played Bama, MO, Auburn and Vandy in successive weeks in October and November 2013. LOST ALL FOUR games. LOL!

That four game stretch of ut's is ranked 2nd toughest in SEC. Toughest, of course is one of Bama's.

2. TENNESSEE (Sept. 24-Oct. 15)

vs. Florida
@ Georgia
@ Texas A&M
vs. Alabama

SKINNY

a) Tennessee’s hopes of an SEC East title will likely sink or swim during this four-game stretch.

The upside: If the Vols can survive the gauntlet at 3-1 (or 4-0), they’ll have a supreme chance of sweeping the second half of the conference slate (at South Carolina, vs. Kentucky, vs. Missouri, at Vanderbilt).

The down side: If Tennessee goes 2-2 during that difficult stretch, the program won’t have any chances on the back end to secure crucial head-to-head victories against the likes of Florida or UGA.

b) The Volunteers have the most troublesome ā€˜sandwich’ game of the conference season, traveling to Texas A&M (Oct. 8) immediately after facing Florida and UGA … and right before their program-changing showdown with Alabama. Yikes!

Ranking the SEC's 10 toughest four-game stretches for 2016

Toughest stretch: Tennessee Volunteers

Toughest stretch: Sept. 24-Oct. 15 (vs. Florida, at Georgia, at Texas A&M, vs. Alabama)

Why: This is the stretch of the season that will make or break Tennessee’s SEC Eastern Division title hopes, as three rivals – two from the East – headline the slate. Things start with what many might consider a must-win against rival Florida. The Gators dashed the Vols’ East chances last year with a thrilling, double-digit comeback win in the Swamp that left Tennessee players, coaches and fans stunned. That game is no doubt still weighing on this team, but Florida is no slouch after winning the East last year and upgrading at quarterback. Plus, the Gators have beaten Tennessee 11 straight times.

A trip to Athens to face a new-look Georgia team won’t be easy, either. Yes, this program is undergoing changes with new coach Kirby Smart taking over, but there are still plenty of solid pieces on defense, especially in the secondary, and having to play in what will likely be a raucous atmosphere at Sanford Stadium can be intimidating. Rivalry games are always interesting, and after a physical game with the Gators, the Vols will have to be sharp in Athens.

The Vols, who still won’t have a bye week to this point, will stay on the road with a trip to College Station. This Texas A&M team has a lot of question marks on both sides of the ball, but that defensive front is solid, starting with future first-round draft pick Myles Garrett at end, and the pressure for this coaching staff means there’s really no holding back for the Aggies in 2016. Expect a great environment with the 12th Man.

Tennessee finally returns home in mid-October, but defending national champion Alabama will be there to greet the Vols. The Third Saturday in October has storied history, and if the Vols want to prove they are legit in 2016, a win over the Tide will go a long way toward convincing people. Still, this is Alabama, and even with some reloading to do, Nick Saban always gets his troops ready for rivalry games. Last year’s game was close in Tuscaloosa, so expect an extraordinary home crowd in Knoxville.
