Amari Cooper, who was named earlier this week as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, was honored Wednesday as SEC Offensive Player of the Year as selected by league coaches.

Cooper has caught a conference-record 115 passes for 1,656 yards with 14 touchdowns, leading the University of Alabama to the SEC championship and a berth as the top seed in the inaugural College Football Playoff.

Cooper leads the nation in receiving yards and is second nationally in receiving yards per game (127.4) and touchdown receptions.

Other SEC players honored were:
* Missouri's Shane Ray as Defensive Player of the Year
* Missouri's Marcus Murphy as Special Teams Player of the Year
* Georgia's Nick Chubb as Freshman of the Year
* Georgia's Chris Conley as Scholar-Athlete of the Year
* LSU's La'el Collins as winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy
* Missouri's Gary Pinkel as Coach of the Year

Alabama players may have more hardware coming Thursday night when several national honors are awarded at The Home Depot College Football Awards, which will be televised by ESPN starting at 6 p.m. CT from Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Cooper is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, along with Colorado State's Rashard Higgins and West Virginia's Kevin White. The award goes to college football's outstanding receiver. Safety Landon Collins is a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to to the nation's best defensive back, along with Oregon's Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and Louisville's Gerod Holliman. Punter JK Scott is a finalist for the Ray Guy Award along with Idaho's Austin Rehkow and Utah's Tom Hackett.

I thought Mariota had one more year of eligibility? How can he be up for an award for senior quarterbacks?

That award goes to fourth year juniors (meaning they redshirt as a freshman obviously) and fourth/fifth year seniors. AJ was a finalist in 2012 and won it in 2013 I think.

Sims no mention in the Unitas award. That's a shame. Did Dak have that much of a better season? And the USC and UCLA QB's?

Nope but some of these finalists were named in November (I think that was one of them), notice Hundley (UCLA) isnt on too many other finalist lists other than that one.

Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper took home the hardware on Thursday night.

Cooper won the Biletnikoff Award, an honor given to the nation's top receiver. Cooper has caught 115 passes, which has shattered Julio Jones' previous school record (78) and just topped Jordan Matthews' conference record (112).

Cooper is one of three finalists for the Heisman Trophy alongside Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon.

On Wednesday, Cooper was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year.
