I believe it was two days ago, maybe three.
I'm kicked back after work watching a TV series on Hulu. I am fairly certain the name of the series is Standoff. Not one of those shows that you'd follow...but, if you want to waste a few hours throughout the week it's "give your a "mind break" series with a...well, we'll leave that alone.
Anyway, getting back to the subject at hand.
The female lead in the series makes a comment that, ironically, made me think about this season and the first part of this series.
"Don't think about the past, look forward to the future."
In a round about wayāthose who have read my articles will understand this commentāit brings me to this comparison.
Some of you may know, some may not, but one of unique things about the way our team runs the summer drills is their preparation for each team they play. As example, our first summer practice was preparation for Auburn, our last for SJSU.
So, in that honor, I'm going to start this series looking at a few things from this past season but following the process. It's a personal perspective and while you might disagree...well, you'd be wrong.
BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
I didn't even watch it. I can't tell you how many different shows I ended up watchingāat times within a five minute spanāand not a single one happened to be that game.
Don't misunderstand me. It has nothing to do with Auburn, the SEC, Oregon (or their uni's), or the PAC1?.
It's boring football to me.
ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL
When I think about this game today, it's no different than I thought about it before it kicked off.
If you don't recall, Paul Finebaum wrote and article a few weeks ago basically asking what Arkansas and South Carolina had done for the conference since they joined in 1992.
Congratulations to Arkansas for making it to the Sugar Bowl. That said, losing to a Big Ten team, a team that has been 0-11 against the SEC?
ORANGE BOWL
Andrew Luck or Ryan Mallett?
While I'm not a Michigan fan, Harbaugh would have been a fantastic fit. This game did feature some "hiccups," but by the numbers (which ironically fits the score) it was a pure insert word here.
I was very impressed with Luck throughout this season. I live on the East coast, but work a different schedule than most here so it affords me the opportunity to watch those West coast games.
I truly hope that Luck's decision to stay one more year was smart one.
FIESTA BOWL
Emotionally this game was a toss up for me.
A business partner of mine is a huge UCONN fan. Upon that, you have to take into account that I used to beāemphasis on the word usedāa big Edsall fan. That said, I still admire what he's done with that program.
But they're are playing Oklahoma, a team I more than respect.
I certainly wondered what OU fans would have been saying if Stoops had lost that game.
Here's one for you to chew on. Ryan Broyles had 170 yards receiving during that game on 13 receptions. He's announced he's returning for the 2011 season in Norman.
Suppose he doesn't return...does it have a bearing on where Julio ends up going?
ROSE BOWL
With no doubtāat least in my mindāthis was the best game of the bowl season. Yes, I did love the way we played in our game. Yet, in retrospect, I might have enjoyed this game as much.
It was history. College football history considering it was the first time a non-AQ school had won the Rose Bowl. To some, that might seem like a trivial matter. To a true football fan: HUGE.
(You'll have to excuse me for a moment as I laugh at the Big1?.)
This is bound to be an ESPY, and in my opinion possibly the best college football play of the year.
We'll talk about the Cap One in a few days...
