How did you all feel about the possibility of a 2 QB system at Bama? I've always been on the side of "if you have 2 QBs, you don't have one", but, after much thought, I honestly believe a system that uses both Jalen and Tua and plays to the strengths of each, could be an absolute nightmare for the rest of college football going forward. What say you?

Depends on the momentum of the first quarter. If Bama is clicking and Jalen is in rhythm I wouldn't want Tua anywhere near the field unless he's holding on extra points and field goals. But what you are describing doesn't sound like much of a two QB system.

I'm not understanding how you think it doesn't sound like a 2 QB system. Could you elaborate on that a little?
 
Saban wants to win. I wouldn't be surprised to at least see some built in packages for Tua. Saban rotated QBs at LSU. Of course they were both similar in playing style from what I remember.

You mentioned somewhere else he would try Tua for a 4 or 5 play series and see what happens. That's not enough reps if you are going to give a QB a real chance against one of the elite defenses in football. Whether anything great happens or not.

In any case, I would expect both Jalen and Bryant to get knocked around and both sides punt a few times before they get their sea legs under them. Against Clemson, sounds like a recipe for failure.
 
It's a well-distributed rumor that the Tua may be featured in a handful of plays. I don't know if there's anything to it or not.

I understand the difficulties of a two QB system. However, I'd have to say that, all things considered, Fran used Zow and Watts pretty well. Nine of the ten best seasons of passing belong to a Saban QB (only exception is JPW '06. Despite that, both Zow and Watts remain in the top 10 in career passing. Hurts just hustled the great Harry Gilmer out of the top 10, with Watts currently at number 9. I doubt Watts is still on the list in four or five years, but given our unprecented offensive production, he's hung in pretty well.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but I dont think Zow/Watts was supposed to be a 2-QB system. Zow got benched in 2001, Watts got hurt and Zow played the last couple of games. Fran wanted to do that old school option offense with a little bit of modern thrown in. Zow wasn't a statue but I wouldnt say he was much of a scrambler and def. not a runner. If Watts could have stayed healthy, dont think he would have ever come off the field in 01 or 02.

They both were used, not just in injury situations, but injuries certainly muddied the situation. Fran would run option against a team he thought susceptible (Watts' 162 rushing yards against SoCar) and would sling it around as indicated by both QB's career stats. They are linked in their careers, but I think they only overlapped two years. I used them as an example because they were thrown out as two QB's who didn't work. They both represented the University well, and Zow was the career passing leader before being supplanted in the Saban era. BTW, Fran's offense was "multiple" and, although I know it's not palatable for many, Saban's offenses have been similar in some respects.
