Bama honored the 1961 national champs Saturday before ole ms
Wasnt many left and the ones there were really old looking me...
Bill Battle and Lee Roy Jordan were honorary captains...

for us older fans....

I remember the 64 and 65 teams real well but not the 61.....thought we had another in 66 but got screwed by the voters, which makes the domers loss yesterday all that more satisfying!

Gave up a total of 25 points that year. Coach Bryant said about them, “they play like it’s a sin to give up a point”. Of course, this was back when sin was “bad”.

Jordan seemed to move around much better than Battle. I know Battle retired to deal with cancer, but he looked extremely feeble walking around on the field Saturday.

So back in the days before platoon football, the story goes, QB Pat Trammel called for a punt on 3rd down and 8 yards or so to go. Coach Bryant asked him, “why did you punt on third down”? Trammel responds, “well hell Coach, them SBs couldn’t block anybody, so I thought we’d play defense before somebody got killed”.
