šŸˆ 14 teams have allowed less than 1.5 points per drive over the past two seasons.

When I threw this over here Friday I suspected a lot of y'all wouldn't touch it—facts going against tirades.
@TerryP I know these are the stats which would seem to imply Bama D is still elite but wouldn't you agree they do not seem to have the same it they had? On that was in attack mode that threw fear into other teams as they have had. It is an intangible of attitude and agressiveness. Bottom line something just seems to be missing and has been for at least 4 years. That is at least how I see it from my living room recliner :).

I know you think my expectations are skewed. It is not that they are horrible just not great. I will acknowledge that what I consider one of the top 2 or 3 defenses all time for Bama got shredded by Clemson and Watson in the NC game so I guess all of them are succeptable to the spread, fast pace RPO with elite QB's.

But I know that this Tide Defense the last several years has had severe Assignment,Alignment,Scheme, personnel, and physicality issues. Just look at all the Busts. All the gash plays. All the matchup issues based on their rules of coverage. All their gap integrity breakdowns. Their tackling issues. And ,of course,I do know the amount of talent, athleticism, speed, and tremendous QB play they do have to face over a full season that other leagues do not have to deal with. A gauntlet. I mean just take a quick peak and examine LSU's sched. this year.

But I also am convinced that Coach Golding and BOB will be,and need,to be replaced and lets find a new way to play.We have too many players regress on both sides of the ball(especially defensively). And our player development has not been good enough in many instances for a place like this.

No implication. These stats tell you Alabama has one of the best defenses in college football.

I see the frustration from fans—often misplaced. I also see the assininistic view points: below par as an example. It's passed being tiresome.

Go back watch Tennessee game.
Stats vs truth

Or lsu game after TO in ot and still didnt have right D team in And had 12 on field when lsu broke huddle

At times D was fine. In critical time was not. And organization was poor.
I saw every game. I give D a D for year

Yesterday starting 2 nd quarter. Nice adjustments for sure. Poor prep before though. That a 1.7 million dollar assistant

Stats and truth, eh?

Tennessee put up a lot points on Bama.
Tennessee led the SEC in scoring offense.

Tennessee put up a lot yards on Bama.
Tennessee led the SEC in total offense.

None of this equates to the narrative, "Golding is a horrible defensive coordinator." Or, "Alabama doesn't have a good defense."

Those saying those things aren't paying attention to the stats or telling the truth. And there's the point.

Right. Not saying horrible or even bad ( was bad at critical times)
For talent bama has/had. Results were not championship quality

And for 1.7 million $.

And ur point is right. Stats and eye test give a different answer

I love the stats @TerryP but I think what pushes people to the edge and over is when in critical times, we have a colossal brain fart that costs us dearly. Against Viles, we go prevent with 2-3 rushers with the best rusher in college football dropping in coverage and allow them to get down the field and kick game winning FG. The TO against LSwho in OT because we have 12 on the field to only come out with 12 again and not go zone but rather try and man up an obvious pick route that is practically every single schools’ #1 two point play in organized football. It was stuff like that at the most in opportune times that chaps people’s asses!!

This is it for me. I know it is a new age of football and that the days of holding opponents to 12-16 point averages are long gone. Both losses this year could have easily been won with one or two plays not going against us by making stupid mistakes. I think the lack of discipline has somewhat surprised me with, not just this year, but recent years under CNS. To have THE MOST penalized game in Bama history while Saban is at the helm is something I never would have believed. If we clean up our mistakes we are damn near unbeatable.

It's not the message, it's the messenger I want to shoot.

We're circling back to what you and Brandon were talking about off site: "where's their head?" Speaking of LSU: penalties were practically 50/50 split between the two units—several I give a "pass" for the defense. IE: Horse collars happen, it's not lack of effort. PI's? Part of the game.

Food for thought.

The penalties begin to increase along with the approach Alabama took with the offensive style, and move to more speed on defense. It's a different player/person.

The eyes will lie, facts don’t. I’ve thought we’ve had a good defense and also think replacing Golding isn’t what we should do. Sure Xs and Os are obviously important, but recruiting is just as important and Golding can do both

I can only laugh that you defend us as one of the best defenses in the country, yet we lost two games and missed the Playoff. Narrowly escaped Texas, A&M, and we see where others were more dominant with their showings. Players regressed. Battle, To'oto'to were shadows of their former selves, Dallas Turner's sacks and tackles for loss were down in more games.

So then that means you think it is the offenses fault we missed the Playoff. It's one or the other for why we missed the Playoff. Bryce played in both games we lost and scored 42 in one and 31 in the other.

As a cop, you know, for a fact, that evencriminals use facts to support their decisions, so facts don't mean much in some cases. We were far from a good defense, and that's not my eyes deceiving me.

I really try to see this differently but I just do not see the shut down mentatilty previous bama defenses have had.

In all fairness here are a few things I have tried to consider when thinking back on this year the teams/defenses performance:

The great Georigia Defense got lit up last night also, so Bama is not the only team that has challenges with the modern offenses.

What does the scoreboard against the Viles look like w/o so many penalties? Same question with LSU?

When penalties occur that keeps drives alive which means the other team will score more points.

Even though it did not appear they were going to be as dominant this year due to WR play, they still likely win at least one if not both games without the penalties and make the playoffs.
