🏈 01/04/15 AP / Coach Poll has Alabama #1

That poll was updated on the fifth. It's the same poll that was released after week 16.

You'll see an article written and published on the 1st at 9AM. An edit here or there, and then it's updated on the 1st and 5PM. It's still the same article. I don't think this is a new poll, but one that has been updated to reflect the new records.

I don't expect to see a new poll until Tuesday, the 13th.

Logically, we should drop to #3 or #4. Hell, we only dropped to #7 after we lost the final two games last year.

What's the point in any case? Really. There are no more games, and a significant number of NFL bound Tide players will never dawn the crimson helmets again. Upon what are these polls based?

Of course trying to make sense of these polls at any stage during the season is a mute point anyway. They are quite simply the dumbest ranking systems ever devised in the history of sports dating back to the dawn of man when cavemen threw a handful of rocks in the air to decide which of them was the best hunter based on where the rocks fell.

Oh no, I completely agree with you, but a poll is always released after the fact, so I was just speculating on where we will fall.

I think it's completely ridiculous for 2014 rankings / polls to be applicable to 2015 rankings / polls.

No no I wasn't challenging your post, sorry. I'm just commenting personally on the futility of polls.
These polls are ridiculous no matter when they come out and by whom they are configured, computer or coach or whoever, whatever. It's extremely difficult to accurately analyze teams into polls that have any sort of merit and likewise predict football games in closely contested and matched situations. Just ask these six (cough... cough) experts.

I mean, if you realize, accept and enjoy polls as merely a cute promotional propaganda tool to keep fans interested and exist so that fans have something to argue over with co-workers at the company water cooler then fine. That's what polls are designed for.
