At first glance it would seem that is a great move by the NCAA. After all, we are talking about student athletes here, right?

How often have you seen the commercials during post season televised events lauding all of the students who move on to other careers besides those in professional sports? If you have a TV, and watched a post season event in any of the major sports, you've seen the commercial.

We all know how selective the NCAA is in its stance on academics. The problem lies in we don't know how the NCAA decides their selections.

Linda Bensel-Myers provided evidence about academic fraud at Tennessee several years ago only to be demoted, sent to what was basically a basement office, had to endure death threats, and those are just a few examples of her trek dealing with the bureaucracy.

In the end, it was a case where the NCAA in their best Schultz voice said, "I see nothing."

Auburn has issues with their sociology courses which again were ignored. But now the NCAA is interested in what was going on at North Carolina?

Consider this statement from a high school coach on how they are determining eligibility.
Recently, one of the top prep schools in the region had to offer its college-level Financial Modeling class with a disclaimer that it would not satisfy NCAA requirements. Please, take a moment to contemplate the result of such superficial review: The NCAA grants credit to a correctly named course offered at a school that fails to meet state proficiency standards in 4 out of 5 subject areas and graduates only 55% of its students, and the NCAA denies credit for a college-level course at one of the elite schools in the nation. Such application of NCAA policy does not inspire confidence.
