I know I did!

You didn’t run inside for every little scratch.
You came in dirty.
Knees scraped.
Hands bruised.
And mom already knew what happened
before you even said a word.
Out came that little bottle.
Bright red.
Strong smell.
And you knew what was coming next.
It burned.
It really burned.
You tried not to cry.
Sometimes you did anyway.
But after a minute…
You were okay again.
No bandage for every little thing.
No long rest.
You wiped your face
and went right back outside.
Because the game wasn’t over.
Because your friends were still there.
Because being a kid meant
getting hurt sometimes…
and getting back up every single time.

I'm positive my mom used merthiolate, which didn't burn, when she thought we'd had an accident and mercurochrome when she thought we'd done something stupid. I hated that stuff, cauterized the wound I'm pretty sure.

I was until I was old enough to realize the scratch/scrape/cut hurt less than the treatment. I'm as anal as they come when it deals with my kitchen being clean. Or, the house. The yard? Yeah, trash there ticks me off.

But, cutting my hand today when I'm outside? The water hose and a piece of tape. Yep...not sanitary at all. Geez, the chainsaw got me the other day and it was "Coband" to the rescue.
