| FTBL Why Utah in the Sugar?

i'm guessing location is the biggest factor. i really don't understand the pairing of Alabama with Utah in New Orleans from any other angle. Bama fans will pack New Orleans easily.

4. After steps No. 1, 2 and 3 have been completed, any bowl with an unfilled slot shall select a team from the automatic qualifiers and/or at-large teams in the following order:

A. The bowl played on the date nearest to the National Championship Game (for 2009, Fiesta Bowl) will pick first;
B. The bowl played on the date second-nearest to the National Championship Game (for 2009, Sugar Bowl) will pick second;
C. The bowl hosting the game that is played in the time slot immediately after the Rose Bowl game (for 2009, Orange Bowl) will pick third.

Fiesta got first pick.

The reason is simple. The Sugar is forced to pick Utah because they hosted the NC last year, and therefore, have the last at large pick. The new BSC rules guaranteed Utah a BCS bid.

The Sugar bowl had the second at-large pick this year. They host the title game next year and will pick last then.

It's about TV ratings. Period. There are no other factors. OSU will have better ratings than Utah.

The Sugar bowl either had to take Cincy or Utah and Utah is much more attractive.

Because the BCS didnt wanna see Ohio State suffer the embarrassment of being 0-10 against the SEC.
