🏈 Who would be a great coach at Arkansas...

I know several of you couldn't care less one way or the other. Others of you actually root for the hogs (no pun intended) when not playing against the Tide.

And.. Most of you would rather a stronger Arkansas team than Auburn continually...

So... What coach would you rather see the hogs get?

Who would you rather see coach at Arkansas, and is there anyone you would dread seeing coach at Arkansas.

Look, I understand that the tide are on a completely different level than anyone in the country... and envy that, but also respect what it has taken to get there. As i look for Bama to win another NC this year... We hope to make it one day.

Humor me if you will please.

Patterson
Peterson
Holgerson ?sp.
Kelly
Butch Davis
Tommy T.
Charlie Strong
Kirby Smart
Butch Jones
Tommy Tubs...

anyone else?

thanks, WPS and... for this year, win the NC... RTR!

I'll bite and play along. Out of the list you gave Rev, I would stay away from Holgerson or you'll be having Petrino flashbacks with a drunken twist! Butch Davis is tainted goods with the UNC sanctions and would best be avoided like the plague. Patterson, Peterson, and Tuberville solid and experienced. Don't know if the first two would ever leave their current employer though, since both have been approached before. Chip or Brian Kelly? Doubt you could pry either one away from their current gigs! Charlie Strong has done a very good job at Louisville and IMHO is the best coach on the list. Not being a "homer" because I don't want Kirby to leave, but do you want a guy that has yet to get that HC experience? Now granted if you get him, the Hogs will learn to play defense IF given the chance to get some defensive recruits in the system.

I am not in this camp with you at all. One, it's systemic considering the number of basketball players involved with the academic side. And two, everything about the South Florida deal has been linked directly to John Blake in every form and fashion.

Tommy T. and Tommy Tubs two different guys?

I hadn't considered Butch Jones. Is it too soon to tell if he's going to continue what Kelly built?

To be honest Terry, since the initial word broke and UNC let Davis go, I haven't followed the story and simply left it at Davis' problem since it was during his watch. Glad you added that bit of info.

I seriously doubt he would leave. I do not know if this is true.. but i have heard he is scientologist... and has a special needs child that the hospital, and physicians are very helpful with where he is...

All that's true. There are two things that make me think he isn't in play that are different.

Back story to the first...

Ron Middleton left Bama a few years ago and went to Duke. The main reason he left was a health situation; his wife's. Now, that can be expounded on a little because she had good care in Birmingham but of course that pales in comparison to Duke. The biggest thing was a time issue. He could spend more time with his wife at a better health care facility.

With Peterson's son, he could have received as good of care in Los Angeles. Peterson would have received more money as well. So, unless it would end up taking a lot more time away? I don't see that as an issue.

The second...

Just after the UCLA job offer I heard an interview with Peterson where he referred back to something he'd been told by a coaching mentor of his. It was along the lines of "if you are happy where you are, even when the opportunity may seem greater and the money definitely is, it's not always worth the move."

He's happy. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him have the same longevity as Chris Ault has enjoyed in Nevada.

BTW, if you call Chris, he can tell you what Long is thinking with Butch. I got that info indirectly, but ultimately through BD's agent.

Chris Peterson, hands down. His 78-7 record at Boise St. is amazing and he has proven that he is a very good coach.

UCLA ponied up ~$4m + alot of coin for assistants (which has been the gripe of previous coaching staffs) and Chris Peterson turned them down. I just can't see him saying yes to Arkansas after passing on UCLA less than a year ago...but then again, things can change in 10 months.

To add to the list you have above Razorback Reverend

Al Golden - does he stick around at Miami?
Willie Taggart - Western Kentucky
ACC Coaches - what's gonna happen with the ACC??? Seems there could be candidates there - Jimbo Fisher, Bud Foster - DC at VaTech, Dabo Swinney)
John Gruden - surprised you didn't mention him (you must be a realistic fan... :icon_thumright:)?

Scratch Gary Patterson off the list, TCU has already moved forward on a new stadium, upgrading facilities, not to mention they are a private school (some benefits there), they are a small school in the DFW metroplex experiencing alot of growth - think recruiting, and could easily feast on the Big-XII for a while when his defense gets a little saltier - want to say he's playing alot of young guys right now.

I haven't been to a game here since they've blown out the stadium, but I'll tell you this, I had a blast a the Utah game I went to a few years ago. Great tailgating, cool fan base, lots of money, great time!

I would love to see Tubs back in the SEC and I would love for it to be at Arky. I would love for him to bring you guys an otherwise perfect season his first year (the exception being the 1 loss from our game, of course) with a particularly brutal 'Barn beatdown. That would be beautiful. Nothing of value to add to this discussion but it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out, though.. since I guess we don't know yet who all will be in the coach hunt. I guess Auburn and TN.. possibly UGA if the fans have anything to say about it, they hate their staff... Kentucky.. who else? I think Arky would be FAR and away the best job of all of those, though. I don't see Kirby taking a HC job in the SEC west but that may be very naive. Off topic but there are some delusional AU fans who have tossed his name around lately and I feel nauseous every time I hear it. I feel confident in saying that he would NEVER do that, though.

Already caught—first week on the job—having a non-recruiting staff member contact recruits when the coaching staff couldn't. There's one I wouldn't touch.

Do they not allow Scientologist into Arkansas these days? No hospitals? They wouldn't be helpful?

You may be right and he may not want to ever go anywhere else but I doubt that especially if the right job came calling. His predecessor, the Buddhist himself, left for greener pastures in Colorado and he is the one who built that program.

edit: Plano, you make good points about UCLA.

rofl....Well, we allow scientologists here, but i am fairly sure i have never met one in this state....

as for medical care, I was told that there is a facility that Peterson donates to and has excellent care for his child unlike almost anywhere.

All of this and the above with UCLA etc...
