šŸˆ Who is this Dan Wolken guy and what is his deal with BAMA?

If he covers college football, and I don't follow him on Twitter, there's probably a reason for it. I'm familiar with him, but I'm not sure what his issue is if he has one. This tweet caught my eye though...

Bama is No. 3 in the polls but isn't a conference (or even division champ) and doesn't have a top-10 win. Why would they be in the playoff?
— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) December 8, 2013

Anyone notice something odd about that?

I see he writes for the Memphis Commercial Appeal and USA Today and is from Hot Springs, AR., but what is his deal about Alabama? I have seen several of his tweets all argiung against us being a playoff team this year. That's right! This year.

He was involved in a conversation the other day which led me to putting him on the national list on the Today's News page. Like you, I've been reading him for a few days and can't quite figure what his deal is...

He sounds like a homeboy. He is from Little Rock Hot Springs AK (Bill Clinton Town) and went to Vanderbilt. He only has 36 followers on Twitter. Duh!

Yeah, and he tried to pull the old "you've only got XX followers" card the other day. He's a troll looking to drive page hits. Just like the rest of them.

I've never gotten that impression.

I'd have to question the suggestion to be honest, riz. Why would someone with a gig like USA Today Sports troll for page hits? If it was a personal blog or something of the like I could understand the suspicion.

I'm a little more inclined to think he's critical of a lot of different conferences, schools, and decisions made by both—a writer with a cynical viewpoint on all things.

What motivates him? 'Tis a damn good question. But, a calculated attempt at trolling a fan base? I certainly don't see him as another Clay Travis.

Alright. Caught me in a bad moment as your boy Earle has my dander raised a tad. ;)

He's definitely not on the Travis level, but they all try to drive page hits, regardless of where they are employed. Maybe I just don't agree with most of what I'VE SEEN him write, which admittingly isn't a tremendous amount. But you know as well as I do, if you want sure fire views, write something negative about our team or fanbase. We're like Pavlov's freaking dog. :panic:

Considering I work for a media company I TRULY understand driving traffic.

In his case, his content/writing may not sit well with Bama fans (on some subjects) but I've never seen him attempt to insult the fan base. Therein is the main reason I don't consider him "trolling." He's certainly shading the truth in some of his comments like the one about Bama not beating a top ten team. While that's true, today, it wasn't true when Bama played teams that were ranked in the top ten when the two met.

He's not lying, but he's also not telling the whole truth of the matter.

Would you consider it a fair statement that he plays "devil's advocate" often? I'd call that closer to the truth than a characterization of trolling.

Fair enough. Or "antagonist."
