I wondered about this the other day after forgetting my wallet and being asked for ID on a beer purchase. I could have shown almost any ID if I'd wanted...they aren't requiring mask inside this store, but I think you get my point.
And that's why the clerk at the store I used to go to would card every single person that bought alcohol. They didn't care how old they looked or how much they complained; no ID, no alcohol.
Of course that was after the previous clerk got busted selling alcohol to minors.
