hopefully none of the above early outs happen but you never know

You can add Hightower to that list and possibly Chapman and Upshaw as well, although Upshaw is on the record as saying he isn't thinking about leaving at the moment.

Honestly as bad as Barron has looked this year he should probably stay. Injury or no he'll drop based on his play this season.

I think we will really miss Carpenter and Dial next year..hopefully Williams and Smelley step up,I don't see Donta leaving early he still needs more time to recoop his knee if he went to nfl combine now he be the slowest thing there..Upshaw I could see.He has played very well all year when his ankle wasn't tweaked..Chapman maybe but we will see when it come combine time ..I still think he stay to improve his rank for next year...all in all I believe we only lose Dareus and maybe Ingram..due to the lockout

Dial will be missed for his leadership alone. As for Hightower, unless something drastic changes, it looks like he's going at this point.

I may be wrong, but i totally disagree. What has Hightower done to increase his draft status? nothing... And Chapman has started one year, he won't be ready to leave; Upshaw... well I hope I can trust him...

But about the four definitely leaving... I guess we knew this day would come tho, when we got that #1 draft class that have been (basically) the leaders since 2008. But who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and Julio and Mark and Marcell will all get together and make a pack to come back next year and play together one last year... :td:

Carpenter has quietly been awesome. I too think he will be sorely missed.

I know when we recruited Fluker, thoughts were that he would eventually be on the left side, but he still has a ways to go to protect the "blind side" IMO.

Keep in mind, Hightower's decision doesn't necessarily have to be based on his projected draft status. Other factors are in play for some players... can't always look at it from a fan's perspective.

It wasn't an easy decision to keep the redshirt on Arie this season. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact he can make next year... and if it will be at left tackle.

Our leading tackler on defense and has three pics :headscratch: really :headscratch: Interesting conclusion to come to.

How is that looking from a fan's perspective, praytell?? Projected Draft status= projected salary= [more money > staying another year] but projected draft status is what Hightower will look at, unless you know something we don't about his relationship with Saban/ a decrease in playing time next year. And right now, I think b/c of his injury last year and his play this year, he'll be back for another year to improve his leadership and play to increase the DRAFT STATUS

If he was a linebacker the tackle total would be more impressive. He's quite good against the run but that's not going to get you drafted high as a safety in the NFL.

He got torched against LSU and Auburn consistently. His pass coverage was not good this year at all and if memory serves National only gave him a third round grade coming into the season.

His play this year isn't going to increase that grade and I don't think he's going to run fast enough to really make up for that.

But as Porter said, many times other factors are at play. I have no idea if he will or won't stay.

just because you see barron chasing a receiver with the ball downfield, doesn't mean he was the one who missed an assignment.. barron was in charge of a very young and depleted secondary.. if i had to guess saban asked more of him this year than was humanly possible..

he did get burnt in the second quarter of the auburn game, but he was caught coming up for the run.. that was a huge responsibility for him against auburn.. he was also injured badly on that play and it was obvious when watching his actions the remainder of the game..

barron had a great season.. the fact that he was the leading tackler should give you a clue about how much responsibility he actually had..

I'm not denying that Barron is a very good run support safety. I'd even go so far as to say he is among the best overall safeties in the SEC. His play this season does not translate well enough to the NFL to make him have a very high draft grade as of now.

I was at the Auburn game. Our receivers were open deep for the entire first half, when he had deep coverage. Your defensive front 7 had way too much pressure on Cam for him to get the ball down field. In the second half, while he still had deep coverage responsibilities and Cam had time we all saw what happened. Against LSU he was beaten in coverage deep multiple times.

It seems like you guys would rather have him come back than go pro and be a mid-late round draft pick.

I am no gypse or a mind reader but if you read into what he is saying you get the picture...And since I have been on this board and I trolled it for two years before I became a member I may add..Porter and Argo are usually dead on

The NFLPA and any other interested parties with a place at the table will get something done in the 11th hour, IMHO. This lockout thing is partially legalities, but MOSTLY hype and fear mongering. The networks with NFL interests are even involved behind the scenes. I'm going to be talking to a buddy of mine who played for Bama in the late 90's and is still playing in the NFL today sometime later this week or early next, depending on how his team does this next week. I haven't talked to him this whole season. I'll ask him what he thinks is up, or if he's talked to any of the head player reps.
