Digging into some stats I found that Bama's back-up Running Back Eddie Lacy is ranked # 79 among all running backs nation-wide for most yardage. He has done this despite have less than half of the number of touches that most above him have and missing time due to Turf-Toe. (Congrats Eddie.)

While also noting that Bama starter Trent Richardson is ranked second nationally on the same list, the question came to me: Who does the credit for Eddie's success go to? Eddie, the Offensive Line, some combination of both?

Cutting to the bone, do we have an O-Line that can make anyone look good, or is Eddie simple another Mark Ingram or Trent Richardson.

SEC Rushing totals through 15 October 2011
NAME / CARRIES / YRDS / YRDS PER / TOUCHDOWNS
Trent Richardson / 132 / 912 / 6.9 / 15
Marcus Lattimore / 163 / 818 / 5.0 / 10
Michael Dyer / 147 / 752 / 5.1 / 8
Isaiah Crowell / 128 / 608 / 4.8 / 4
Vic Ballard / 105 / 598 / 5.7 / 5
Jawon Chisholm / 114 / 575 / 5.0 / 3
Spencer Ware / 128 / 512 / 4.0 / 6
Chris Rainey / 103 / 500 / 4.9 / 2
Eddie Lacey / 51 / 419 / 8.0 / 5

A significant portion of a RB's success is directly related to good O-Line execution...the best RB isnt going to do much without blocking lanes to get past the first wave of tacklers. I judge a RB by the ability to locate daylight, make people miss, and the ability to gain yards after first contact.

Interesting to note is the Yards Per Carry averages. No other back is within a yard and a half per touch of either of our guys. Also, TR and EL combine for twice (TR with 15, EL with 5) the TDs of the next closest (Lattimore with 10 TDs).
