So my brother just informed me (sorry no link) that Alabama will face SIX teams next year that will have a bye week BEFORE playing Alabama. The next closest SEC team has only TWO games to play where the opponent has a bye before the game.

Is this true??

If it IS true, how the heck could this have happened? It is COMPLETELY unfair from my point of view.

Can someone shed some light on this please?:confused::confused::confused::swear::swear::swear:

I saw someone compile those numbers on another forum in the last couple of days. I don't know how accurate it is, or isn't.

I was looking at one SEC teams schedule last week and they hadn't announced the dates of their OOC games yet.

You got me curious.

We all know the standard joke about Tennessee getting the week before the Alabama game off, but given so many teams have an off week before Alabama this season, I wonder what the numbers were. I've included 4 years (couldn't find helmet schedules for 2005 or beyond) and came to some interesting facts (assuming I didn't get cross eyed). Now, assuming you think it benefits a team to have a bye week to prepare for your opponent (I do):<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1. It's not UT that is benefitting most.
2. Yes, Alabama is getting screwed the most... by far.... not even close

Someone from the SEC office was on one of the radio shows and was asked about it. He said that the SEC part of the schedule is set years ahead, but the schools have complete control of their non conference dates. Considering that the NCAA gives the schools 13 weeks to get in their 12 games, there is a limited ability to control which week is your bye week. I know that Auburn has a bye week before our game with them, but so what. We are playing Chattanooga.

Each year we are becoming a little deeper and tough games back to back (or even back to back to back) will be easier to cope with. Bring it on, SEC.

Can you smell fear? I can....................they fear Bama again and life is good.

+1 on the post above. Get used to it people, Bama is the big kid on the block again and people are:
1. Going to dislike us from a jealous/fear standpoint
2. Going to bring their A game when they face us
3. Going to do everything they can to get a leg up on beating us. Including scheduling off weeks before they play us.

Didn't you wonder why teams tore down goal posts and celebrated like they had just slain the dragon when the were beating us in the 80's and then again in the nineties? Even when we were having 4-8 seasons, it was celebrated like the just won the SEC. It because we scare the pants off people.
Think back to when the 2010 schedule was being made, it was right around the time Saban was announced as head coach. hmmm?

The SEC official's use of the term "complete control" is a bit misleading. True the schools have complete controll over what they do with the 5 open dates AFTER they are assigned by the SEC. They have ABSOLUTELY no controll over which 5 dates are assigned. Open dates(not to be confused with off dates)prior to conference games are not that uncommon for any of the 12 SEC schools, although there is a greater propensity for the SEC to give schools an open date prior to a game with Alabama. What the schools do with those dates are under their control, but if you don't have an open date before the game with Alabama you sure can't schedule that date off. And if you are one of the other 11 AD's and you are given open dates prior to games with Bama, Vandy, MSU, Kentucky, and South Carolina, it is a "no brainer" that you are going to take the week off before the Bama game and schedule your 4 OOC games prior to Vandy, MSU, Kentucky, and South Carolina.
