| FTBL What are your (non-Bama) takeaways from the mid point of the 2019? We're through week seven.

Ugly- I can’t make up my mind here. Was it undisciplined play that got all of the penalties or was it the shitty officiating that threw some horseshit flags?? I’m really leaning toward the latter here! SEC officiating is just plain SHIT!!!
It's a combination of both. A few times. You know me ... not a fan of pointing to officiating. I'll say it left me confused.

Take Barmore since he's been a subject of conversation. On one down hes being held. It was as clear as day on TV...in a double team, right? Then we see the brush to the helmet and flag resulting in points.

That's both undisciplined, and questionable officiating wrapped together.

Remember—and this goes to the "why aren't they playing Barmore questions—that's the second time this season that Barmore has been called for the same foul, right? And, it's resulted in two scores on the defense. Barmore, two scores. You see my point here?

Hindsight:

A lot more positive things to take way from the game than negative.

Barmore is one. That's been a straight up bull rush most of the time. It's fun watching him blow through. The packages they are using him with is something I'd like to watch again. He's been able to affect the pocket ... notice how the ends are staring to play with him in as well? (The title of this thread could be made about Barmore.)

That was a rough ball game. One of those that fit, "road fight." Tough ball game.

It was a deceptive stat line game again on face value. Rushing yards in garbage time is one glaring number.

That was the offensive line I've been pointing to for weeks with the belief "they can run the ball." I believe they did.

Focus is on the kicking game, being called special teams, and it's a misnomer. Bama's fielding, arguably, some of the best units in football. Teams aren't returning kickoffs opting for the 25. Waddle will be kicked away from soon. (Use two returners? ) Doing well there.

Through seven games you can get a good feel for a few units/statistical measurements. One I pay attention to a great deal is defensive efficiency. I've done that for awhile now, but feel it really comes into play in this era. I haven't looked at the numbers from the weekend but a quick indicator I've found is drives versus touchdowns. It was mentioned only five drives didn't end in scores in last night's UF vs LSU game. It's been trending that way on LSU ... all the while Bama has been trending as an efficient unit. That'll be out soon...if its not already.

Burrow and LSU's offense look fucking amazing. We might actually see a shootout. We laughed at the Orgeron hire but it looks like a home run today. They have a #1 team in the nation resume and look the part on the field.

I can't believe how dominant Wisconsin looks. Granted they haven't been facing offensive juggernauts but four shutouts in six games is hard to do, I don't care who is on your schedule. I think they beat OSU.

All SEC teams appear to have forgotten how to play defense.

As stacked as the rules are in the offenses favor combined with the changing landscape in offensive philosophy it was bound to happen.

Defense is too weak to win it all.
All SEC teams appear to have forgotten how to play defense.
"Is this what we want football to be?" ~Nick Saban @ 2012.

At the time it was the answer to a question about the HUNH offenses. Saban made his question in the light of player safety but there's the other side of this I see forgotten.

That's what people wanted football to be: quick offenses, high scoring, quarterback based. That's what we've got, right?

SEC focused:
  • Chad Morris, Joe Moorehead, Derek Mason are in a race with each other to see who'll get the golden parachute first.
  • LSU's defense is bad.
  • Aggies have deep pockets, but the wrong coach. Meanwhile, the man who hired him is in Baton Rogue🍿
Others:
  • Tom Herman's whine is the bestest (@BamaBoyJosh)
  • Jalen's post game quote in reference to Red River Rivarly and Iron Bowl - “They’re different environments. I don’t know how many people are going to be able to say they’ve got wins in both games."

Thepost was "non bama " takeaways
Most amazing " non- bama " moment.....no doubt...Wisconsin...
their D has given up 26 points all season...
The Michigan state beat down ...wow
And 4-5 shutouts already
#2 would be the Jalen Hurts... I know.. big 12 Ds...but still

I still do not think we should be this bad regardless of how the rules are stacked. My post was actually being posted as I was watching how easily LSU AND Florida were moving up and down the field. Neither seemed to have a clue how to cover anyone or tackle.

Do you think you're expecting too much out of so many TF's?

I probably am but it is still frustrating. From my perspective this is two years in a row with subpar bama defensive play. At least with this one you can tie it so many early departures, injuries and youth. I do think Moses would have made a big difference just making everyone around him better.

We have what we have so more games and LOTS of coaching and film study is needed. For these young guys another year in the off season program may be required. Big difference in strength of a true freshman and a redshirt sophomore or Junior.
