Ray Hudson's tiny little step out of bounds and Deshaun Foster are really the only bad memories I have of that night. Well, the final outcome and the coach weren't the best memories either (and I'm only discussing the home game)!

I am still trying to forget the return game at UCLA. Expectations were so high for that season, and even after UCLA abused us out there few suspected the rot that had set in to our program. Truly the beginning of a nightmare.

Well, we played out in LA first...but, you're right about the start of the nightmare. Ranked #3 and then go 3-8. I had gone to Biloxi that weekend to gamble a bit and had made sure to arrive and check in in time to watch us kill UCLA. Ugh!

And then the Great State of Mississippi made sure that I enriched their budgetary coffers.

That entire weekend was a bummer.

Not really.

I recall, so vividly, sitting in DuBose' office that summer when Terry Jones came in and gave him a list of players that didn't show up to work out that day. As soon as Jones left, DuBose wadded it up and threw it in the trash.

At that point, any suspicions I had about us being (insert your adjective) were confirmed.

I can't even begin to describe how I hated seeing that "pancake posse" line thrown out so often. Made me sick, literally.

I had been living in LALA land (Commiefornia) and hadn't been paying much attention to football. when i got home and asked my mom who the new coach was going to be.....
My reaction was Mike Du - What? Who the hell is that. :headscratch:
Sadly it didn't take me long to figure out. He coached WHERE? Prattvile High School. your kidding!?

and so began the long asd march into the desert....for 40 years.
A compleat biblical catastrophe.

Actually Dumbose's credentials weren't terrible coing in. He was a well thought of position coach in the NFL, came to Bama with Stallings and became the DL coach. When Oliver left for the Barn he became DC, with some success. When Stallings left an outpouring of fan support (the memorable fax campaign) caused the school to cave and select a HC who was totally over his head. The rest is very unpleasant history.
