🏈 Updyke: The gift that keeps on giving...

Whattt...many hail what he did...some others think it laughable...
Its criminal...period..i hate AU as much as the rest..but not the oaks..and..i doubt if toilet paper or hosing it off hurt the trees...period..
It did but that did not kill them but would have eventually, just many years later. Hate what he did, hate that he latched onto Bama but he just really accelerated the inevitable.

The only people I've seen "hail" it are trolls and everyone laughs at how ridiculous their stupid tradition is not that Updyke did it. Regardless, like others have said AU fans have been killing those trees for a long ass time.

i'm still confused as to why they roll those trees, anyway.

i have asked many auburn fans about it, and the only answer i've really ever gotten was, "you'd never understand."

well, i'm a semi-smart person and i'd like to think i'd be able to understand the reason. but what i really think is that most of them don't understand why they do it. so they tell others that they wouldn't understand. i believe they do it simply because it is "tradition" and because "mama and daddy did it, so i do it, too", with no known reason (to themselves) as to why they do it. it's like they do it for the sake of doing it.

I'm located in Sylacauga and teach in the city school system here. They used to use this same "tradition" when they played and beat BB Comer. I used to ask, "WHY?" Only response, "tradition!" It has some Barner ties to it somehow, but no one has any idea. Our band has been called "The Half Million Dollar Band" as well. I think it was a dig at these Barners and stuck. We had 3 generations on one family being the band director and each one finished at UA. So, at least there is some reasoning behind it.

Depends how long you have worked there but I may have run into you before. I worked on the phone systems throughout all the Sylacauga schools and installed the system at the BOE, about 5-6 years ago.

I've seen many rivals fans point to what he did. I've seen very, very few Bama fans laud his vandalism. Very, very few and I suspect it was tongue in cheek with several.

To doubt the toilet paper and hosing the trees down to clean them hasn't harmed those trees ... simply put, wrong. It's not the only contributing factor, but it's a part of a larger problem. Those tree are already stressed due to where they are--in the city and their geographical location. When you add the rolling and pressure washing ... it's undue stress. They are literally changing the way the tree feeds itself, grows, etc.

Lets also not forget that they once attempted to "clean" the toilet paper out of the trees by burning it (like the moron that did it recently and was charged for it).

Did they give that foreigner a saliva test? Not sure why the barners are struggling with the concept that Updyke has flat out lost his marbles. My guess is if that german was wearing crimson he would have needed a better lawyer.
