I'd imagine it's just a thing unique with Oregon...  I heard an interview with Aaron Estrada a while back where he talked about how they basically got whatever NIKE brand shoes and apparel they wanted while he was there...  you'd pick out whatever you wanted from a magazine and it was yours... and that's in edition to all the team issued gear.
