| FTBL Upchurch update...

Practiced some in a black jersey today. He wasn't "officially" ruled out for Saturday's game, but I don't expect him to suit up. Saban said Roy has chronic neck spasms, and hinted that they will probably need to be corrected surgically in the future. Also, Earl Alexander was in a black jersey today (separated shoulder in LSU game) but was very limited in what he was able to do. I would say he too is extremely doubtful at best for Saturday's game against Mississippi State.

i really hate that for upchurch. he has stepped up to the plate this year. he is one of the players responsible for the tremendous leadership this year. i hope he will be healthy for the remainder of the season, guys like that have a presence on the field that rubs off on everyone else.

he's contageous, but not like the plague... in a good way..

Under Saban, I've yet to see one player in a black jersey on Weds play on Saturday.

I think the only role Roy would play, if healthy enough, would be on special teams... but yeah, I don't see it happening. He basically said Terry Grant would be taking over for him this week on both offense and special teams.

Ehh...
I think we'll rest our starters against Auburn. LOL!

JOKING, AUBURN FANS...JUST JOKING!!

I hope Roy is back for Auburn. However, he shouldn't rush back if he's not healthy. The fact he may need surgery for his neck issue, is serious. You want him healthy, but you also want him to lead a healthy life long after football.

With that said...I hope he's 100% for Auburn.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Upchurch and Ingram sit this one out. Coffee and Grant should be enough for Miss St.

Give Goode some carries too! :D

To be honest, if we get up early, I'd like to see Coffee get some rest. He isn't 100% either.

Reading between the lines, it looks like he is progressing enough that he should be, but his issues it something that can pop up at any time. This is the second time it has popped up this season, but this latest case was much worse. Saban said it literally happened during warmups in Tiger Stadium.

What exactly do you think his issues are? I have been trying to figure it out. I know his neck is causing him to have spasms, but is it something that is career threatning, needs surgery or a day to day thing. Prayers for Roy either way. ^*()

I would imagine it is a pinched nerve or something like that. Those can be painful, and come and go, and when they do flare up they can be fairly mild or bad enough to pretty much render one useless.

I had a bout with pinched nerves recently...horrific. I had to quit working out completely until it went away. My left forearm is still a bit tingly and it has been a month or more since my last attack.

Thanks, my experience with a pinched nerve was in my back under my shoulder blade and it took two weeks to clear up from some of the worst pain I think I have ever experienced but I never had any more issues with it after those two weeks. I guess depending on the location and whether you actually give it a chance to heal, they can be very different.

Yeah, and I can't say from first hand experience, but I would think one sure way to ignite a pinched nerve flare up is to put on some football pads and start delivering/receiving blows.

I do want to reiterate though that this pinched nerve stuff is just speculation. The only thing we know for sure is, he has some sort of chronic issue in his neck area.

I had a pinched nerve in my left shoulder the entire month of June. My arm was just a "thing" stuck to my body. I couldn't use it at all. It was brutal.

I can only imagine what Roy deals with when his neck is acting up.

Good to hear it resolved itself. I had a recent bout with exactly the same thing. It took a month to get an appointment with my neurosurgeon. The symptoms had actually peaked before I had the appointment. A steroid pack and three weeks of physical therapy, mainly cervical traction, and I'm good now. The PT guy was great to work with and had some good recommendations. One thing he mentioned was that once a cervical disc or nerve root has been disturbed, posture can help. As much as many of us sit in front of a computer, simply drawing your chin to your chest slightly can more properly align your neck.

Back to the topic, someone mentioned resting Ingram. Is he still favoring the knee or is it something else?

RTR,

Tim

This doesn't have anything to do with Upchurch, but I thought I'd kick my 2 cents in on this for good measure.
I'm relatively sure that the folks on the board who have had "pinched nerve" problems have had them evaluated by an MD to be sure.
BUT... please be sure that it is! Sudden onset of numbness and pain in either arm or the shoulder is also a symptom of heart trouble. Please be sure. Just lookin' out for you.
