šŸˆ UGA takes one on the chin! Rodney Garner to the Barn!

Why do you hate it? :icon_twisted:

There's rumor he was "moved along" by TG.

This seems like a good time to take a trip down memory lane.

Anyone for a stroll?

I was the last to interview, then the committee immediately took a vote that day. Somebody was opposed to every candidate until they voted on me last. That’s how I got the job. Lowder said he wanted me to hire Wayne Hall as an assistant.

Tommy (Bowden, Terry’s brother and a member of the Pat Dye staff) told me that if you wanted anything done you gotta go through Hall. My second day on the job (athletic director Mike) Lude said ā€œyou can’t hire Hall.ā€ But then I understand Lowder called and said that if I couldn’t hire Hall we will find a new president.

So I hired Wayne Hall. One week on the job, Hall came in with a ledger of players who have been paid, who paid the money, how much money and when it was paid. He said we’ve still got 9-12 players that we’re paying $600 per month.

We paid then $12,000-$15,000 to sign. We sign about four every year that we pay.(Former assistant coach Rodney) Garner paid most of the players. He was paid when he was a player at Auburn.(Stacey) Danley is the assistant compliance guy, and he was paid when he was a player. I broke the rules. I said pay it off, and it will never happen again.

He may go back to his old ways but what I hate is all of his undeniable recruiting success since being at UGA and he takes that to the Barn with him. The crap that happened on 2001 won't amount to anything today unless he reverts back to his old ways and gets caught.

I could make a list, but I'll start with just a name.

Isiah.

Yes, he is a good recruiter. There is no doubt about that.

If you have a guy who takes chances on kids with discipline issues as a recruiting coordinator joining a coach who takes chances on kids with discipline issues you have a team with kids who had second chances on discipline issues. Do those go away under Garner or Malzahn?

There is no evidence they do.

One of the biggest farces out there right now in discussions about the coaching change at Auburn is the notion they'll get back to being a disciplined team when the guy they hired was there when it all started in the first place.

I don't believe people change.

What Garner does give them is someone to recruit the GA areas. That's the intent of the hire. Yet, as Matt mentioned, it isn't a case where he's been beating other coaches and other schools for their top players.
