That's a bizarre play on a couple of fronts. You don't see a declined personal foul very often. The defender's thuggish reaction, from the hit all the way until a coach threatens him with death if he makes one more response to the crowd, makes the offense worse. In reality, the way the receiver accelerated to the ball just ahead of the hit is what threw the defender's timing off. Break down or side step. Had he hit him and shown remorse (who was it that did this in a Bama game earlier this year?), he wouldn't have been ejected, imo.

RTR,

Tim

Well the penalty was declined because they would have lost alot of field position if they accepted it so that was not surprising. Him being tossed is an easy call since he intentionally lowered his head and used his helmet to try and knock the guy out right as he got to him. Had he actually kept his head up and hit him like that i dont think he would have gotten ejected but since he launched himself, then started acting like he just made the a NC game winning play and taunting everyone it was well justified. I was more surprised that Krause came back in the game later on after clearing the cobwebs from him head

big hit, I didn't watch the game. Seems this hit could have given Vandy more momentum to close the game out. How did they lose this...oh yeah, its Vandy. So Arkansas has two come from behind wins....lookout LSU ;)

I don't see him jumping around as much as the knucklehead commentators suggest...

The hit itself was poorly timed partly due to the offensive players movement toward the ball but that isnt an excuse. That is something the defender has to be aware of. The unsportsmanlike and classless demeanor of the defender after the play is what i felt definitely warrantes ejection

The hit wasn't that bad in my opinion. The defender was at full speed, the offensive player was running full speed to get the ball. Not really sure if the hit could have been avoided as quickly as the offensive player broke toward the ball. Still has to be a penalty though, regardless of the circumstances.

Did the ejection come from the hit or from the defenders reaction after the hit?

This isn't the first time a hit like this has happened. But, normally the defender who hit the defenseless man shows remorse for what he did. The way Wade reacted warrants a multiple game suspension if you ask me. It's completely classless and uncalled for. The things that could result form a hit like that are horrible...a broken neck or worse paralysis come to mind. And to get up and act like he did...

What makes it worse for me is that Petrino's sitting there talking to Wade like he hasn't done a damn thing wrong. Big props to whoever the coach was that finally jumped in his grill, and told him to start acting like an adult.

I might be completely off-base with this statement but I've watched this thing over and over, and I think there's a chance that this was intentional. The way Petrino doesn't get upset, the way he celebrates, the way his teammates almost pat him on the back for it. Also, if you look, there's another defender coming behind had Wade not laid him out.

I can't tell, did the Vandy player call for a fair-catch?

I think it was the hit, although, his reaction probably didn't help things...but there never was a call for taunting afterwards.

If it was the hit, why wasn't the Bama player ejected earlier this season? One of our starting DBs (can't remember if it was Dee, Menzie or Dre) hit a Florida player around the 5 yard line before the ball got there. The Bama player lowered and drilled the Florida player, but no ejection.

I think it has to be the reaction after the play, but I never actually heard why they ejected him.

I remember the Bama players hit on the Florida player but i dont remember him lowering his head and using his helmet to lay someone out. He never called for a fair catch but you still cant at full speed launch urself like a missle at someone that high. He could have driven into his chest and i wouldnt think it so bad but he literally put his helmet in that guys chin and drove through him

I think it was the right call. I think what led to the penalty was the taunting afterwards. Classless at best. I applaud the coach who finally grabbed the guy and walked him to the locker room.

I remember the Bama hit on the Florida player and I think what separates the two is that the Bama player (Dre, I believe) showed remorse or at least didn't taunt and act like an idiot.

I don't remember the play against Florida that ya'll are talking about. Does someone have a video clip of it?

I still say that because the Arky play was celebrating a dirty hit makes it look like he did it intentionally...and I would definitely agree that had the Arky player not acted like he did after the play, he would not have been ejected.

When I saw it live I literally threw something at the tv, that was ridiculous. Not only did he hit him early but the kid called for a fair catch... and then the douchebag got em and celebrated like it was the greatest hit of all time... and continued to talk trash and scream at his coach on the way to the locker room...

Good ejection, set a precedent... u make a hit like that, ur gone.

I didnt think he called for a fair catch....i thought he was shielding the sunlight from his eyes. But dropping the helmet as he did on a defenseless player and his behavior afterwards, Im good with the ejection. Both players very fortunate they were not seriously injured.

Watch it again...and look at his left arm. Not the right hand shielding the sun but the left arm motion.

In a frozen frame he's leading with his shoulder, btw.

Doesnt a fair catch signal have to be above the headgear ? I dont know the rule right off hand but I was under the impression the hand signal had to be above the headgear......as for leading with the shoulder......looks to me like he lowered the helmet....but either way, I think both were lucky not to get seriously hurt.
