Trickle Down Economics and Pigskin Prognostication - Sugar Bowl
By Darren Carter (Big_Fan)

Its ugly. There is no other way to put it.

Not the game or the match-up - No. The cries for respect and legitimacy flowing forth from the Utah Nation (?) that echo across the internet. Nary a day passes without a Ute fan feeling slighted by commentary from someone - pundits, coaches, rival fans, players, Martha White, the Cookie Monster, Snuffaluffagus, and a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri have apparently all made comments leaving the Utes feeling slighted. It has become apparent that anyone other than a Ute fan who feels that their team should win the Sugar bowl is an elitist with no understanding of MWC power…or perhaps the truth is that some fans from a state that rhymes with “computah” have an inferiority complex the size of Alaska…but I digress.

On January 2nd, two teams will enter the Superdome with their sights set on claiming the title of “Sugar Bowl Champion.” Whether Alabama fans are BCS elitists, or Utah fans are delusional, will be irrelevant when the two teams square off on the gridiron.

So believing that our team actually has a chance to compete against the high and mighty SEC (as opposed to our players simply bowing down to yours when they step on the field) equate to "inferiority complexes", "cries of legitimacy", and "delusional Utah fans".

Stay classy Bama.

Seriously, do you get this upset every time someone has a different opinion than you?

He is entitled to his opinion. If you're team really is all it's chalked up to be, then they'll prove it on the field...and then they'll get respect. Simple as that.

I agree, just because B_F thinks this, doesn't mean we all (bama fans) think this.

I'm not upset, he's got every right to his opinion. However, I do think most of the Utah fans visiting this site have done so with the olive branch extended, are genuinely excited about playing a storied program like the Tide, and have all the respect in the world for your program. Which makes it a little frustrating to then turn around and get labeled as "delusional" and "crying for legitimacy" simply because we don't agree with his "you don't possibly stand a snowball's chance in hell" breakdown.

Such is the life of college football fandom, I suppose.

Whats laughable is the way you get up in arms any time that someone thinks Utah will lose.

I have seen ute fans call us elitists and delusional because we think we will win, and you guys walk around with a MWC chip on your shoulder thinking you are being slighted at every turn. Seriously, that cries "I am insecure!"

Keep in mind, you are on OUR site. We are not on yours. Act that way.

I think that if you read all the weeks of any of the "Trickle Down" Series you will see that B_F is always honest in his writings. Thats what makes him good at it. He finds a way to make a point. Show Plus and Minuses. And still make a good prediction. He isn't trashing your team. He is writing about the University of Alabama and what HE believes are the keys and strengths of the teams.

Good article!

Funny, I don't ever recall saying Utah will actually win. (unless you're using "you" in the collective sense here). Trust me, I have just as much of a problem with the Utah fans that are predicting a blowout win for us or saying that we'll somehow dominate this game (frankly, I think they're insane). But just because some of us disagree with your breakdown doesn't mean we're "screaming insecurity".

Keep in mind, you are on OUR site. We are not on yours. Act that way.

Isn't that what message boards are for, to bandy about some different ideas and get different points of view? If "act that way" means taking every word you write as gospel truth, then I guess maybe we do need to find a different place to discuss the game. Shame, I like most of the fans here and have enjoyed having some good discussions about the matchup. :(

Actually, I have no issue with the article itself (although I don't agree with some of it). I take some issue with the first paragraph, but I know that means exactly squat to you guys. :)

You are entitled...

The first paragraph requires a think called "a sense of humor."

The issue with my message board comment is this...If I go to your house, I am going to act differently than I do in my own house. I own my house. It is my domain. If I go to your house, I am a guest, and I am going to act that way.

Comments like "stay classy Bama" are relevant in your house. Trickle Down is a Op Ed piece laced with stats and a prediction. Comments about class etc, actually serve as proof of what I said about insecurity. If someone gets up in arms over an op ed piece, they have envy or security issues.

I certainly don't see it that way, but I suppose we'll just agree to disagree on this one.
